I’ve yoyoed for 9 months and can hit a reverse behind the back brent stole, am I ahead or behind?

Should I start building a routine too?

I’ve been yoyoing for almost a year and I don’t know what a reverse behind the back brent stole is, so ya?

Its never too early to start building a freestyle. If you can hit btb reverse brent stole consistently you are way better then I was when I was 9 months into yoyoing

I would say congrats on hitting that trick! But remember this is all about fun and doing what you love. You arent in competetion with anyone but yourself to be great.

You go rock star.

I mean it also depends on what else you can do. For instance if that’s your only trick then you would be drastically behind but if you can back that uo with tech, hooks, whips, etc. Then you might be miles and miles ahead.

Also as everyone else here has touched upon yoyoing is something where it can be kinda bad to compare your growth to others in some ways (bad might be too strong of a word but still). Go at your own pace and enjoy the ride. Don’t worry about how others are doing unless you’re trying to learn from them.

If thats what is fun to you, you are ahead.

I think a single trick isn’t telling us much. Many people grind out a hard trick but skip many foundation tricks. Posting a short video of you would be much more useful in helping you know where you’re at if you care. Also, keep in mind someone that yoyoed for 9 months and did it for 5 hours a day vs someone who does it for 15 mins a day is going to be very different so time is better with hours then days/months. Above all if your having fun and enjoying it that is all that matters at the end of the day.

You are very far ahead, when I was 9 months in my best trick was probably revolutions :joy:
For the routine, it depends on what you’re gonna use it for (comps or just to post on YouTube) for example, if you plan on going to worlds or nats next year, you might want to start to consider music, and then build a freestyle. But don’t take my advice super seriously, because I’ve never been to a contest in my 3 years of yoyoing

Its all relative, but it sounds like you have the knack for whip catches

Just wanna say I also think it’s a good idea to start building routines to music. Nice work! Keep learning and having fun!

That’s cool, but can you walk the dog? :sunglasses:

It took me about 10 mins to get the regular reversed bt but the behind the back took something like 30 mins

There is no such thing as behind or ahead. Your learning at whatever pace works for you. Anything else is self imposed nonsense.

Do whatever works for you and whatever you enjoy. If you are planning to be competitive, however, continuing to practice consistently and abundantly is certainly something that hold a high level of your attention.

Way ahead of me. I can’t even get behind my back…

Me either, I just pulled a muscle in my neck last week shaking cans of paint.

I wouldn’t say you are behind, especially if it’s only been 9 months.
My advice, if it keeps happening, would be to practice with your back against the wall or a big tree. When I start hitting things behind my back, I just put the yo-yo down until I sober up a little.
