I like my yo-yos like I like my blood cells... (A Blood Cell, RBC, and Plasm Appreciation Thread)

Good point about pad size as my 2 favorite bearing throws, Plasm and Weekender, both have wider response pads in conjunction with a smaller bearing. They just seem to have a softer catch to them. I need to pull out my Moonshine and throw it around some again. It’s also a C bearing but I remember it being a bit softer too, it also weighs quite a bit more.

Weight is another factor heavy can hurt but will spin so much longer however too heavy and return slips. I kind of enjoy the 45/55 gram range for responsives

Also, the Plasm hurts less when you mess up while you’re loop-goofin’ lol

can’t wait for the next round of these

Finally managed to procure one of these. Already wish I had another one.

I respectfully hate everyone in this thread. My looking for list just grew by several new throws.

A C bearing responsive will never cut it for me. I dont think that size bearing is suitable.

I totally agree never have found a response C bearing setup I like

deepest state is probably the best C responsive that I have tried. I’m no master by any stretch, but I have to agree, small bearings are where it’s at for responsive. I wondered it has to do with how much room the string has winds up into YoYo, or the wall height it something.

Could a physicist please chime in?

I don’t collect OD for reasons

I’m not smart, and far from a physicist, but I can speak somewhat on the fixie standpoint

The fixie I have used with a larger diameter axle don’t play as well. Sleep time is cut down, response regarding regens doesn’t feel as successful (it can still be done but it just doesn’t have that deep.)

It also doesn’t have that snap like a smaller diameter axle. The No Jive has such a nice snap once it hits the bottom.

Maybe that corresponds into the bearing responsive world somewhat. I will say that what they accomplished with the Deepest State is a freaking miracle, I very much enjoy it as a responsive 0A machine with the grease bucket, but I do still prefer A bearing and MR85 responsives. I jame the Deepest State a lot though

There needs to be the right amount of winds around the bearing to make the throw and return feel and perform correctly and MR85 bearings allow that best for a modern unresponsive. The small bearing maximises string/wall contact for tighter winds, better throw to spin power translation and way better regens. C bearing yoyos feel off when you throw a breakaway or loop with them which is also very much to do with the bearing diameter.

C bearing responsives feel great when you are just throwing them down and pulling them back up, but not for much else.

i think “responsive” as a term is becoming way too synonymous with 0a stalls, flips and regens. all 0a is responsive, but not all responsive play is 0a and the statement you made is an example of why the distinction still needs to be made. i find classic 1a string tricks to be tremendously fun to throw responsive. tricks like that feel great on a lubed c bearing and actually awful on small bearings to me. right tool for the job… something… something

I suppose I’m referring to ‘Modern responsive’ which i assume has to do more with newer responsive tricks rather than older 1A tricks and doing them responsive.

so the breakaway, loops, and regens you mentioned are the “modern” tricks you’re referring to? lol like this is the trick list so far for modern responsive march…just sayin perhaps modern responsive should refer more to modern yoyo designs rather than a specific set of responsive tricks :man_shrugging:

To be fair, we also said we were going a little old school, plus a lot of them fit the Fallout theme

I think it’s good to break out some of the ol’ classics every once and a while. Helps keep them in rotation (pun not intended). Also gives Kretz a workout on that Butterfly :joy:

I pretty much do responsive stuff exclusively. I’ve tried a lot of responsive stuff in the last five, six years. As far as response, I too gotta go A bearing. It’s a serious draw toward docs throws. That’s just my opinion of course. Mk1’s harbinger is just another killer example.

Sorry, I’m kinda coming into this conversation a little la..

You’re outa your element Donny!

Harbinger is SW too. Based on the same dimensions and specs of my wooden Harbinger.

I mean 0A is not meant to be a competitive style as much as a vibe

how does that relate to anything i said?
