It is a rejection trick.
Please do a quick search for “magic drop” or something like that. You will find many many topics with the same problem that have lots of great information in them.
Try extending your thumb farther forward. The tricks works because the string is being pulled far enough away from the yoyo that the string pops off the yoyo, this lets you land it on the other string. Hope this helps, for me, it really helped when i understood why the trick worked.

try exagerating the “L” shape with your throw hand more, by opening it up more
Ok so does the yoyo land on the back string? and do you release the string around your throwhand or does it release by itself?
Also im using a dark magic version 1 if that helps
Ok the string rejects out of the yoyo gap but the yoyo alwayes lands on all the strings
As you would have discovered by doing a search, point your nonthrowhand index finger down to separate the strings a little bit.
Not sure if anyone mentioned it but it doesn’t matter if you land it on the front string or the back string. It’s still a magic drop.
Also ape is right with that last statement. Try helping yourself before begging for help. Search is a good and helpful thing.

I feel your pain man. I still can’t do it and I’m learning “Expert 2” tricks. Which also implys that I cannot do shockwave or kamikazee (is that how you spell it?) yet. I find this trick even harder than suicides. I’ve done it ONCE ever! I’ve done plenty of suicides… I hope you have better luck/skill than I’ve had with this trick.
Yer mate thanks actually i used a bit of angel hair string and tried it and im starting to get it 20% of the time. Also i ordered a One Drop dingo so i might be able to aim it better with a smaller yoyo.

here are my tips: like was mentioned earlier, tilt your non-throwhand index finger a bit downward, to separate the strings. when you swing the yo-yo under your throw-hand, swing it forward a bit, away from your body, towards the tip of your throw-hand index finger. also, speed is bad, steady is good. smooth is the way to go with this trick. if you do it too fast, the string won’t “reject” and you’ll just stay frustrated.

Never a truer word spoken!!! I have landed magic drops several times on both front and back strings now, and this is the one piece of advice I would say pay particular attention to. The drops always land noticeably better and cleaner as soon as I slow it right down. Shaun also mentioned to “tilt your non-throwhand index finger a bit downward”. I find I point my index finger to the point where the string almost looks like it’s going to fall off.
