Hybrid Bearing Maintenance

I recently got some Hybrid Bearings to try. I’m enjoying them but I’m getting conflicting information about maintenance. I’d appreciate any information or advice about maintaining them. I’m still sort of new to modern yoyos. Thanks!

I lead a sheltered life. What’s a hybrid bearing?

I’ve got one and I just blow it out with compressed air when it needs it but that’s kinda rare. I keep my throws pretty clean along with their area and I’m conscious of where I play so my bearings seem to stay clean. When it does happen though I’ve never needed more than a quick blast to get it back to normal

Since this thread has been necroed, I’ll chime in:

  • Full ceramic bearings don’t need lube. There’s no need for corrosion protection. Lube could reduce friction/wear, but I don’t think it’s enough of a concern with ceramic to worry about. Only use thin lube if it’s too loud for you.
  • Hybrid ceramic bearings should be lubed for longevity. The SS races benefit from moisture protection.

While I’m here, let me express my love for the much underrated hybrid bearing. It adds a full two minutes to my sleepers, and even using it on my 5A rig, it holds up like a champ. And I’m bad at 5A.

I’ve yet to try full ceramic, but I’ve seen tests where it improves spin time even further. I also hear their more fragile, but I’d be willing to try it once in a 1A throw.
