How to Clean Your YoYo Bearing

I don’t and won’t use the stuff. But that’s just my preferences.

thanks

Do you guys know any good unresponsive yoyo lube that’s a household item other than yoyo jam thin lube? Does baby oil work?

There was a thread about this a while ago.
No, don’t use baby oil. Don’t use vegetable oil either. I think those would be thick lubes.

I’m more of a “right product for the right purpose” kind of person myself. Then again, sometimes when you rely on your equipment for a living(I don’t make a living with yoyo, so this applies elsewhere), I use the right products for the job. You can get any light machine oil, that should work, or trumpet valve oil can work good too. Sewing machine, fishing reel oil and gun oil can probably work too. I don’t know about gun oil though, I don’t have guns.

Is jig-a-loo a good lubricant? Is it closer to thick or thin lube? It comes in an orange spray can, from my old rubik’s cube days. It is apparently safe on most materials (metal, wood, glass, most plastics), but does damage some plastics.

Also, my bearing is responsive for some reason. I checked out the thread that is about this, but it didn’t help. I cleaned my bearing (100% acetone nail polish remover) and lightly lubed it with valve oil, but it was still responsive. Not super responsive, but responsive enough to play with caution. Then I cleaned it again and left it dry, but it is still responsive. There is no visible rust or debris inside the bearing, and nothing obstructing it in the bearing seat. Also, the response is really worn out (almost a year now lol), so that’s not the problem.

Thanks.

I would not recommend nail polish remover. It usually has additives that make it kinder to skin, but could leave a residue on bearings. Trumpet oil is an acceptable lube but it is probably more like YYJ thick or Brain lube - use it very sparingly for good results.

I read something that said acetone is corrosive and that nail polish remover has “impurities” like moisturizers that could damage the bearing. I used paint thinner. Dried the bearing with a cloth and lubed it with 2 drops of a light oil used on model trains. Seems to have worked well. The bearing is quite again with a longer spin time

Ok u might not believe me but I found this stuff called white gas in my shop that’s to lanterns and stuff well anyway I used it to clean my hearing cause I was out of mineral spirits and I was amazed how much dirt came out and how much nicer they spun because they were cleaner than with mineral spirits.

Ummm, using white gas, gasolene or Coleman fuel is not recommended for cleaning purposes. People have been known to die from that.

And above all, don’t put none in yer ears.
