I have 80 yoyos at the moment. I honestly love every one for different reasons and I actually play all of them. I’ve owned 136, so I have no qualms about getting rid of a yoyo if I don’t love it or it starts to feel stale. It does feel excessive at times but I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I love yoyos and they bring me joy. So I try to practice anti-consumerism in other areas of my life.
its been a year and a half since i ignited this childhood craze, now with the power of internet and being single its crazy how fast you can build a list of wants, get some then add even more than before.
I got into it just over four years ago when I was working with kids and had more money so I bought at least one in every shape category and axle/bearing setup. I currently have 15 unless you count the ones for parts; That has me at 21.
I learned pretty quickly I’m more into the flow than I am the collecting. So I usually only buy them as souvenirs when I spot one.
Yeah. This is my main case and it’s pretty densely packed. But then I’ve got little mini displays and some in storage drawers all over the place. Luckily yo-yos are small.
I don’t consider myself a collector (the exception being the No Jive 3-in-1). Just been around a long time. Almost all my yo-yos are tied directly to people I care about or events I remember.
As is ever the case though, it’s not about what you got, but what you DO with it and how much joy it brings you.
(I’ll grant you that’s easy to say when you’ve got way more than you need.)
