Bought this project 2 second hand. How would a person go about trashing the inside so bad? Obviously the rims being beat up makes sense, but how would you trash the bearing seat so bad?
Trying to take out knots would be my guess.
I guess he was trying to take it out with a jack hammer lol wtf
Maybe the former owner was a nail biter and he just got used to taking out tangles with his front teeth😳?
Tight bearing seats + taking out bearings regularly will do that. My 888 looks like that just from 10+ years of taking out/putting in bearings after cleaning.
The scuffs in the catch zone are probably from having it in a pocket with other things - keys, pens, wallet, etc
The only weird scuffs to my eye are the inner response pad walls closest to the bearing seat, idk how or why it looks like that. Maybe the prev owner played with thin steel wire lol
I didn’t think of that. Maybe using a metal tool to dig the knots out would do that.
I knew the rims and catch zone were beat up when I bought it, but how could that that thin rim just outside the bearing seat get so worn? It’s like they poured a bunch of sand in it and then played with it. Or like you said used some kind of metal string. Weird. It came with nothing left of the response pads too. I’m going to put some silicone in and see how it plays. I just hope the rough edge doesn’t shred the string.
This is what I envision doing to my yoyos every time I see someone post about using a titanium knot pick. Sometimes I get aggressive and annoyed when I cant get a stubborn knot undone, but im using a toothpick. Just wow, what a poor state for yoyo to be in.
The bearing seats can get ruined by repeatedly changing out bearings on yoyos that aren’t machined to precision, so I can understand that part.
Toothpick is the best. I cringe everytime I see someone use metal on metal to pick a knot.
Ya a toothpick is good. I like Bobby pins. They are rubber tipped and they are laying all over my house.
HOLY ■■■■ did he made grinds on Metall pipes or what?
Definitely a QC issue.
Jk
Happy weekend
Early on, I thought using metal tweezers to get knots out was a good idea until I noticed my Top Deck started getting tiny scratches around the bearing seat. I use toothpicks now.
Maybe the previous owner was using a knife or something to get knots out
By doing tricks like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/CNzC7wEBm0r/
With that much damage, Im guessing the halfs were dropped or something when it was taken apart or it lived in a pocket alongside keys
Ive gotten plenty of marks in the catch zone from having a yoyo loose in my bag, picking knots with something metal, or catching my wedding ring but not to this level.
That’s YoYoFactory for ya!
(kidding of course)
made in ‘merica for ya!
too soon
Ha! I don’t believe the beatings occurred in America. I will take a good throw from any country.
it was a tongue-in-cheek and satirical comment to the many a silly debates on the subject
I’m willing to bet the previous owner used pliers. I have a yoyo that looks similar to that (because I used the right tool in the wrong way).
