I have no doubt a beginner will go with the responsive. Unresponsive is an advanced skill to take up after beginning with responsive.
I guess I just can’t get past this: unresponsive yoyos have only existed intentionally for maybe 25 years. the history of yoyo goes back much longer. Why did people even like the trash yoyos they had until the loop string was born?
That’s entirely possible fos1. Some of the random 50 people could say, wow, I used to yoyo back in the day.
I had a guy over, he was in his thirties and I was using my RBC. He asked to try it and said “wow, you got one of them sleeping yoyos” and I saw the satisfaction on his face as it slept for 20 seconds and returned to his hand with a simple tug. He then proceeded to show off walk the dog all over the hard wood floors, lol, but whatever, my RBC had love marks already.
I then showed him some wicked unresponsive tricks. He said “that’s cool” as if he could care less, and kept throwing the RBC.
They did not know they were “trash” and obviously no one thought they were trash or they would have gone by the wayside hundreds of years ago. They also probably didn’t worship yoyos like many in the yoyo community do these days.
MagicYoyo on the big box store in the cloud makes some pretty nice mass market yoyos. The ones that are unresponsive a labeled with big print that explains the lack of tug return. You can see in the comment section that many do not understand.
Unresponsive is very rewarding but it just not come easy for most. Many can learn but the motivation and desire has to be there.
Fads are fickle and unpredictable. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs figured out a big one but it is beyond me.
I would love to see lots of young kids get into yoyo. I’m doing my part…
I see what you’re saying, being into yo-yoing it would be really great and convenient to see an unresponsive on the shelf at target or Walmart, but only yo-yo players even know what that is or what they do. Anyone else would think they’re broken, which is fine. So I really disagree, I think responsive should continue to represent yo-yo. The butterfly xt is actually really awesome and you can do so much with them, the regular butterfly and imperial just seem like novelty to me. A lot of 0a players love the butterfly, and when they work they’re really nice and my eye’s finally open to their greatness, but that’s after getting a string that’s juuuust the right thickness and double wrapping the axle. They just don’t work at neutral string tension unless you do that with my experience, what kid is going to know about doing that? I really think they need to update the butterfly and tighten the gap, and put the logo on both sides. Then it would be a personal favorite. You lose a lot of the spin time for 1a when you double wrap, but the response is just right with the right string. It’s a little too complicated to set them up for a yo-yo that’s so simple by design.
I believe this spring as many people crawl out of their hobbit holes with new routines, new designs and the desire to show them off. Yo-yo will have another expansion in tricks, design, players and routine styles.
The biggie some anodizing company is going to rise to the top with amazing anodizing splashes.
All predictions are based solely on yoyo magic and enthusiasm.
