I was thinking about this to myself today and recalling a particular experience I had years ago.
It was shortly after CLYW had released the basselope. I loved the look of the yoyo and really felt like it could be a yoyo that I would enjoy quite a bit. I ended up purchasing one and upon receiving this yoyo, I realized to myself that I really had not paid much attention to the player who’s signature yoyo this actually was. I had heard the name “Sebastian Brock” tossed around here and there, and through scrolling through videos on the web, I had glanced at his name here and there, but for whatever reason, I never felt very compelled to actually click and watch his tricks.
As I played the basselope, I felt it was easily one of my all time favorite yoyos, and if it was built to the specifications of a certain player, I had to see what this players style was all about.
Turns out, Sebastian was one of the most unique and interesting players I had ever seen throw a yoyo and quickly he became one of my all time favorite 1A players to follow. I feel so grateful that the basselope actually led me to watch and see his tricks for myself as I would not have known without that nudge to do so most likely.
Was curious if any of you had a similar experience? Has a yoyo made for a player ever made you wonder and check out to see who that player was?
I am grateful that my basselope was able to do just that!
yoyoing in general helped me find this community full of players…
anyway looking into certain yyf yoyos introduced me to yuki spencer who i know alot of people consider one of the greatest yoyoers to ever throw a sleeper.
The RecRev Octave Gen 3 I got as my first “high end” inspired me to look into Anthony Rojas, and that is a decision I don’t regret at all. Anthony Rojas is such a crazy good player. Wish I still had my Octave 3 sometimes, but it was fairly heavy playing, and I moved it for something I enjoy much more anyway.
The markmont. Next also got me seriously interested in Markmont’s yoyo vids, good stuff for sure
uhhh… not much after that. I found Janos while still thinking that Duncan was the only good company ever when I started. Didn’t know just how good of a player I had found, just new he was really good and associated with Duncan
When yoyoexpert had the free SEVERE with a purchase of a supernova, I got interested in Tyler Severence and I loved both yoyos so much I bought a Space Cowboy and nova and am seeking an 09 Severe
Yeah this happens lots of times for me, why? Cause I don’t really pay attention to the actually signature of whose is it? For me is “wow this Yoyo is really good?” and then realizing “oh cool it’s actually a signature Yoyo! They got a good taste in yoyos!”
Sebby is a great player and a great person to talk to. If you haven’t met him, he’s at almost every contest in the Southeast region throughout the year.
