To all of you, especially those who replied in this thread, thank youā¦
Hi, rockstar.
Since I have developed my skill and process of making yoyo, and all my tool bits shaped to my requirement, now I can complete a yoyo like the latest one shared in this thread in two days, with about 10 hours of lathe work (I work rather slow).
Specification:
Diameter = 50 mm
Width = 42.5 mm
Weight = 64.7 g
Gap = 4.5 mm
Bearing size = C
I must admit that the overall design of the 6016 was inspired by OD MN, Cafe Racer and Rebirth (many thanks to OD). I was so worry during the making of this yoyo because I was afraid I couldnāt get the required weight based on my calculation, but I was so happy with the outcome. The actual weight is about 2 g lighter but it is alright. IMO, the 6061 plays and feels almost the same as OD MN, comfortable, smooth, but less solid and slightly more stable (tilt resistance). And the part that excite me most is that it is almost, yes, almost vibe free, and it is tunable. I can feel the vibe with finger test but it is way better than any of my delrin HTYY. It looks very nice too.
Without further ado, here are the photos of the 6061:
Have you made (and/or sold) any more of the PhotoFrame yoyos? I really liked the look and concept of that one.
Actually just discovered and read through this thread for the first time today and have been very impressed by your progression in skill and concepts.
Each yoyo looks better than the last and it was fun to see how you continued to fine tune your ideas and results.
Hi, jhb8426. Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I am still making my yoyo manually, and the 6061 is 100% hand turned. I kept the design straight and simple, no round rim and axle hub, to reduce human error during the process. I am really happy with the results, it is my daily throw nowā¦ I think I am going to make a full size one with the same design.
Hi, DavidNR. I am happy to know you like the PhotoFrame. So far I have not made any more of it. This project is more like a testing for me as I was into rounder rim during that time. Now I know I can make yoyo with round rim but I donāt think I will continue with it as the moment because I think the process involve too much free hand cutting and shaping, which will cause inconsistent results, no good for duplication. But if I have the chance, I will try make a PhotoFrame using the design the 6061.
Many thanks for taking your time to read my previous posts. I also do that some time and always feel happy with myself and grateful that I can make yoyo for myself. I am still learning to make a better yoyo. And I am glad that I learn something in each of the previous project, which enable me to make a slightly better yoyo later. Thank you so much.
Many big thanks to these three great and nice guys, GregP, scooter-mcgavin and mrcnja. Your kind comments mean a lot to me.
Yes, the jump is a huge one for me :). The work and difficulty doubled compare to delrin. I have to stop and give my little minilathe a rest for about every hour of work, the motor was so hot that I donāt dare to touch its surface. But everything pays off when I see the 6016. I am working on a full-sized Al 6016 and hope to share it with all of you soon.
I think it would be cool if you could turn an extreme h-shape delrin yoyo like an h-spin envy and have weight rings in the rims or somethingā¦ Keep up the great work!!
S3TH, thanks for the comment and suggestion. I have a Hspin NVX and it is sure a nice yoyo with great spin time and stability. Actually Landon of 3yo3 has made a HDPE h-shape yoyo called HanDPickEd, and there is a nice review by Chris Rhoads of High Speed Yoyo, here is the link http://www.highspeedyoyo.com/reviews/a-m/3yo3/3yo3-handpicked. I may consider making a delrin h-shape yoyo once I am done with Al. Thanks again.
Gomel, I think I have to make a clarification that the full sized Al yoyo that I am making is not a new design but it is based on the HTYY#0.40 above, with bigger diameter and a little bit of extra weight. Thanks for your interest.
When you say hand turned, you donāt really mean your hand holds the tools, right? Youāre using a duplicator or setting up a guide, right? If youāre notā¦ wowā¦
