Give me some throw recommendations!

Tell me some of your favorites of all time, and some of your favorites that have recently released within the past year or two! Also I’ve only recently gotten back into the hobby and taken it more seriously. I need some string recommendations and more information about string types. Some are rough and some are soft. I like the softer feeling but the soft ones slide around my finger awkwardly. Please try and recommend stuff in stock :joy: Thanks!

2025 highlights for me that you can likely easily track down are:

w!ld contrast - best performance throw out there by my personal preferences
unprld tenacity - if you like heavier throws with more string presence you might like this one a bit more, very controllable but slower paced as a result
unprld distortion - if you want a bimetal with a bit of a lighter feeling (lighter than the above two) this is a great pick
disyoyos sibyl - great all around yoyo, not as high performing as the two above but just comfortable and fun, not fatiguing over long sessions
wilderness 7075 - imo a yoyo everyone should try, wide and powerful monometal that’s likely the best budget competitive yoyo we’ve seen in a while

realistically hard to go wrong with most modern yoyos

My favourite strings are mfd vines till now. Also original throw fat is super good.

I recently got a w1ld upshift and after a long time I have enjoyed a bimetal!

Asora V3 is one of my favorites and they’re actually in stock (abt $120)

  • one of the best SE organics you can get while still being somewhat affordable (compared to other SE organics**)

also Recess Firecracker (d bearing) $50 new

  • in stock and significantly more affordable than the asora but not an SE yoyo, but still super super fun to play
  • also ships with a responsive bearing and unresponsive

i think for a competitive style throw, any popular model from w1ld, can’t go wrong w them. personally i’ve only tried the w!ld model and it didn’t really do it for me, extremely capable but didn’t have much personality in my not so skilled opinion. your mileage may vary…

but if u want floaty, flowy, and SOUL

asora and firecracker!

responsive recommendation

ONE DROP DEEPEST STATE, not in stock but will be soonish hopefully (?) but seriously, a great experience, highly highly recommend ($60-$90)

also try fixed axle if you haven’t, diversifying was probably my best choice with yoyo

For a good plastic I always say the Plastic Fulvia. Has a bit of float, carries its weight. I had a used one that broke unfortunately, but to my knowledge, the durability has improved over the first run. While I did have it I was always choosing it over my Shooting Star (which is also a good yoyo, but if speed is more your thing then go with that). Both are $30 so if you can’t decide, and you’re willing to, just get both!

+1 on the Asora V3, I was completely surprised by how great it plays, and SE are always a plus for me!

For strings, hard to go wrong with Ziplines (Executive Lite are my go to), but I’ve been enjoying Throw-Yo Threads a ton lately. For bulk, CloudWeave and Canopy Rope are nice!

Do you have a favorite shape or play style or any preferences you’ve developed to help narrow things down?

Personally I like rounded organic yo-yos and I’ve really really enjoyed the feather spin ptram @Cmchappell97 which is a bit undersized but super fun. I’m super excited for the eventual asora v3 pre order (I wanted pink) I got to try it in a pay it forward and it was awesome.

A highlight of the year for me was the Jake bullock x freshly dirty dirty dunk. It’s just a fun plastic YoYo that really hits all of my play preferences.

As for string zipline is probably the go to for string for most folks and has allot of options. @BigRedStrings has awesome nylon which is on the soft side and throw yo @rkalajian has a variety of options and variety packs to try

Canopy fora has become one of my all time favorites since I got it. It plays really soft and floaty but has a a lot of power. The pc/pom rims give it a nice touch too and make it soft in the hand as well.

Highly recommend!!

Quite nice! Usually bimetals have this dense rim weighted feeling but the upshift doesnt have that. It feels easy to move around and quick. Plenty of power, you dont really notice it being 51mm width. Wish it had a slightly smaller diameter but thats just me😅
