General Yoyo Thoughts

5A is really about getting interesting and challenging new knots in the string.

i had a dream i was hanging out with someone from the forum, i donā€™t remember who, and we had a box of expensive yoyos, like a SS Banshee, Banshee, Batsquatch, Hummingbird, others like that. and weā€™d throw a sleeper and set them on concrete to get them really dinged up. i have no clue why, and thatā€™s all i remember from the dream.

Iā€™m thinking a counterweight made of a relatively ā€œsoftā€ hardwood may be an ideal counterweight density.

Alright @MoonageMin and @twitch77, Iā€™m not specifically speaking of anyone but even if you feel Iā€™m speaking directly to you, itā€™s not a negative. Itā€™s an observation that leads to a question.

Kids will pick up a yoyo, or any skill toy and just experiment and try to model things they have seen. As we become more articulate and develop our intellectual skills, we often will experiment less and talk, think, and discuss it more. Our learning style changes as we incorporate new learning strategies. The kid often learns more quickly, taking into account the kid isnā€™t too young. Does this suggest one might learn more quickly by talking less and yoyoing more? I think it might be a possibility. Iā€™m not saying itā€™s not fun and enjoyable to talk yoyo, we all know better. :grinning:

Makes perfect sense to me

Haha if I spent even like 1/10th of the time actually yoing as I spend on these forumsā€¦

I would reply in greater depth but Iā€™m trying to embrace my younger self at the moment and yoyo instead of intellectualizing it! Bwahaahaa!

Getting less and less enthusiastic about yoyoing lately. I thought this Covid situation would encourage me to yoyo more and it did for a bit and then I just got tired of it all.

I donā€™t want to get into specifics here as Iā€™m tired of having the argument it involves given that most responses seem to misunderstand what Iā€™m talking about. If youā€™re really curious DM me.

Regardless, Iā€™m starting to give 5a a really serious attempt at improving and see if my feelings change, as most of my issue has to do with 1A at the moment.

I get like that sometimes. Iā€™ll throw out of habit and go through the motions and wonder why Iā€™m even bothering. I think itā€™s like anything - we just get tired of doing it and need a break. For me, art is and will always be first. Reading is second, and yoyos are third.

Got the PDX Yo Batsquatch in a trade today. Iā€™ve been fairly bored by a lot of yoyos lately. This yoyo is insane. To describe it, the yoyo is light and zippy on the string, but still manages to spin forever. I can do my best tricks all in sequence on one throw. Havenā€™t experienced that even with the Draupnir. I felt as if I was picking up the Yoyojam Dark Magic for the first time again. The feeling of using a yoyo so much more powerful than youā€™re used to. Not a feeling I get all that often nowadays. It makes you want to be better.

Itā€™s funny you mention that, this has happened to me I think in the past week or so. I want to find some new tricks to learn on 1A but have been too lazy to put in the effort to watch any videos.

5A has been stealing the show since the beginning of the month that I put 1A on the backburner. I think part of this is happening because 5A is still very new to me so Iā€™m learning things faster with this than I am with 1A. In a sense I feel like Iā€™m in some RPG. My 5A class is leveling up pretty quick in the early stages but will soon begin to slow as I find more advanced things. 1A ā€œleveling upā€ is definitely feeling like a grind right now

Maybe my soon to arrive Masamini 2 and potential Loonie will change my mind, even though I have a bunch of small yoyos.

What I might try is the ā€œ15 minute trick challengeā€ and see what I can come up with in a 15 minute time frame. I saw this on Youtube and tried it on one of my breaks at work. It was quite fun in the middle of a looming rut.

Interesting, the yoyo looks like a Parlay or a Sudo, but in the YouTube description says itā€™s a prototype.

I wonder if maybe thereā€™s a Parlay 2 coming?

Something is coming that looks sweet. Maybe part of the 2020 series, I donā€™t know all the details? Looks like its called the One Drop Panorama.
