General Yoyo Thoughts

General yoyo thought - intricate string tangle-inducing tricks is relaxing. Detangling endless wads of xmas lights is stressful. Went from detangling wads of xmas lights today (thanks to a crew who doesn’t know what they are doing) and losing my mind pulling 1 strand at a time to finding myself relaxed doing some yoyo tricks that could have left me in knots.

My general yoyo thought for the day is OUCH.

I really am going to have to look into making my own string going forwards from here. I recently made a purchase from Zipline as a bit of a treat for myself because I like their strings and I love the company, they deserve all the support they get because they are lovely people. Obviously they aren’t cheap and living in the UK you have to pay through the teeth for shipping. I get a card through the post yesterday saying that the package is held up awaiting a customs charge of about 15 flipping quid!

All in all this string order has cost me around £48 or $62. For 25 strings! I have to try to not think about it when playing with them otherwise they will bring no enjoyment. This is the least good thing about this hobby for me, I’m not made of money at all and I have a low paying job and responsibilities (as with everyone else) but man, this is HARSH!

Once these are gone I am learning to make my own

Ah, bummer! :slightly_frowning_face:

Those customs fees are killer, you’ve been lamenting those for a while.

Dude, hit me up. I’ll help you figure out some of the logistics (material, tools, setup, etc.). I don’t know everything about string making, but I’ve been spinning my own for ~3 years, and do know how to make strings that work;

and I’m a poor-man too. The craft can be economical if approached thoughtfully

My wife LOVES to take the knots out and detangle my strings. And before you ask, no, that’s not a euphemism for anything. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Literally every trick that I “make” ends on a green triangle. I just can’t avoid that haha.

Green Triangle scares me. :scream_cat:

Because until you master it, it’s Axle-Knot City.

Plenty of GTs aren’t difficult. Start with an easy one and work your way up.

Also… get good at picking knots :upside_down_face:

Even the simplest one, the trapeze brother variant, is a knot lover’s paradise…

do you know GT’s?

Only from tutorial videos. My first dozen tries either missed or resulted in knots.

GT suicides are even more terrifying.

but, they are easier then Trapeze Suicides, because the loop actually wants to stay open, lol.
