General Yoyo Thoughts

Since getting back into throwing in about 2018-2020, I’ve thrown more all year around this year, than any other year (if that makes sense lmao).

I’m pretty sure I have thrown more in the past month or two than I even may have when I first got into it in the 90’s lol

As a collector there is a difference. I buy yoyos to try and “Save” that fit my niche. I am not necessarily looking for the end all be all design.

With this though, I have also learned what my preference is in the yoyos I play.

Another interesting lesson learned is that opinions change; For some reason as my skill increases, yoyos I didnt care for become fun and interesting.

I don’t think this is the pattern that you are describing(?), but occasionally I buy a yo-yo because I think it will suit some type of trick better than others (e.g. Panorama/Diorama or Chopsticks/Chobi Gorilla). I find that these have made me a better player because they are optimized in a way that removes some frustration from learning specific techniques, and once I am comfortable with them I can the adapt the progress to other yo-yos.

I never sell yo-yos just because it is a hassle, but a side effect is that I can pick up a yo-yo that I bought years ago and realize it is so much better than I first thought.

Yeah, I don’t see any downside other than potentially running out of room to store them.

One can over consume, one can over fixate, yet; I’ve never seen anyone be accused of over spreading the yo-yo…

Buying more yoyos won’t necessarily make you a better player but surely a happier one.

Kinda surprised I never had this realization before, but by coincidence I had left some yoyos sitting out in the sun before I want to remove the pads on them. And when I finally got around to taking out the pads, it was the cleanest pad removal I’ve ever done. It seemed like the adhesive on the pads being warmed up really helped with having a clean removal, there was no residue at all left behind.

I’m gonna keep this in mind any time I need to rip out pads in the future.

Might be able to achieve the same effect in less time with a heat gun, if you’re one of the lucky ones to have one around (I still need to buy myself one)

Just toss it in the microwave

don’t do that, or do, I’m not your mom.

tbf you always have been able to. heck the screen inside is metal. its actually fine as long as there are no sharp edges on the metal. it all depends on how it reflects the microwaves

I don’t remember that episode of will it microwave.

Edit

It was “is it okay to microwave this?” I miss that series. Peak YouTube…

The heat gun method works wonders! Whenever I get a new throw with less than desirable response the pads come off easy with little to no mess. You can get a rather cheap one for $15-20ish or honestly a hair dryer would do the job too.

You just unlocked a memory in the back of my brain, I used to watch those guys all the time

I’ll try my hair dryer next time I remove some pads! I always just use a wooden stick/stake (idk they come with the gnat traps I bought forever ago) and brute force scrape them out :joy:

This sounds much easier!

Just douse it in lighter fluid and burn that sucker out…. Don’t just douse it in lighter fluid and burn the sucker out.:rofl:
