I maybe put too much energy into thinking about this, but this was a topic I made about it. TLDR: yyf whip, or a butterfly XT is the best imo. Butterfly XT I can find easier (targets in the US), and it has a greased/heavily lined full size c bearing so they stay responsive a little longer than the whip. The whip is a close second, being a little more durable and it has protruding response pads that grab/snag the string. The bearing runs out of lube a little sooner though. I try to have 2 yo-yos that are opened and ready to hand out. It starts out as me putting one on the finger, and handing the identical one to the person to try out. If they seem to like it, I offer them the yoyo. If it doesn’t seem like a good fit for them, I don’t force it on them.
