This is actually the hardcoat anodizing, not nickel plated.

I have the same one and could not recall the details of it.
Answer from David at OneDrop last year in response to the picture of mine I sent:

"That looks like the hardcoat anodizing we did on those. Very cool
finish and one we didn’t do very often at all.

Cheers,
David"

Here is an example of a Nickel Coated Kuntosh for comparison:

Interesting, I was told it was nickel by the person who sold it to me

Picture of mine I sent to OneDrop that prompted the response above. Same as yours.
I can see why they are mistaken for nickel as they are a similar color.

Insight from someone on throwers disc, he says he was there during production

Also says it’s a nickel coated, but I’m not sure at all

Based on the sale post of a nickel I linked, yours and mine are definitely hardcoat and not nickel. And David confirmed as well. Hopefully you weren’t overcharged with it being touted as nickel.

I’m actually not sure, I was looking at the hardcoat pictures and they don’t exactly look alike to either of our yo-yos

Insight from source:
My 5k seems to be a rain stained one that has darkened

It’s because they darken overtime due to exposure to skin oil. I bought mine at PNWR years ago from OneDrop directly. The change in color due to oil is a byproduct of the hardcoat.
Mine is much darker in the catch zone than in the cups after extended play and handling.
Believe what you want but your 5k is not nickel, it’s the same as mine

Interesting, other people seem to think it is a nickel though

If you want confirmation about your model, send pictures to OneDrop and ask for clarification as I did:
onedropdesign@gmail.com

This is a nickel 5kqv. @skysurveil I believe you also have a nickel 5kqv and it was misidentified.

Here’s a picture of a hardcoated one in similar lighting, the differences are clear:

I’m about 99.95% sure it’s nickel, this is very confusing

Here are better pictures, so we can just be sure

this is also nickel.

The sale post I linked appears to be clearly nickel. The finish on mine does not look anything like that one.

I think we need clarification from @da5id
