One Drop general discussion

Starting this thread because I haven’t found anywhere else that’s appropriate to post random One Drop-related things that aren’t ‘news’ or specifically related to any one particular product.

To start things off, I noticed that in this old photo there are these shiny green and red Projects:

I don’t think these were officially released colourways, so there’s not much information out there about them. Does anyone know what kind of finish this might be or who made them?

It looks like a powder coating. Sweeeeeet :fire:

Where is the photo from?

The photo itself is a link!

I found two more that seem to have the same finish. Powder coating sounds about right. I was going to say that it reminded me of Cerakote but it’s too shiny.

Cerakote can have a finish that is pretty close to powder coat, e.g. the Pearl White Kamuraiju.

Unfortunately that is the only instance of that finish on a One Drop yoyo. I’ve been searching for one for months now because ever since I first held a Cerakote I just wished they were smoother.

There are yellow Cerakote versions of the Markmont FRS Project 2 and Blunder Bus, and the YYR CS61, which have a similar finish.

Maybe they will still add it to future One Drops. (cough-yellow-Cerakote-Crucible-or-Summit-2 cough)

“Pearl White” would be a nice complement to the “None More Black” Deepest State.

New museum account on IG looks promising:

Thanks hsb! I am running the museum page, and I am really excited to get this collection catalogued for the folks who cant see it in person to enjoy! We spent the afternoon in the shop yesterday and I just made it through about half of the first drawer. Tons of unique pieces from onedrop and many other manufacturers to come on that account!

Definitely recommend following the Museum account to see everything we have in our collection/playable museum.

Lou is amazing for offering to document it! Awesome.

I think those Projects are painted ones by Brett Grimes way back when he was doing that.

Is this a One Drop-machined spinning top in this photo? It certainly looks that way, but there’s no name and no other information about it.

They have one spin top on the website in the Not YoYo section but it doesn’t look anything like that one haha.

Yeah and it’s not from 2014. :stuck_out_tongue:

Freaky ‘Side Effects’ in this picture:

When is this from?

‘Taken 25 Feb 2025’, it says. They almost look like the SEs that One Drop made for modders much earlier, but brass.

I wonder if they are for holding the plates that protect the response area when blasting. Those plates are also in the MMC pictures, and I bet they were used on the kuntosh too.

Edit, actually clicked the picture, that’s the picture I’m thinking of.

I was thinking as much. The shape is very odd though. Look at the tip of it.

I think it’s for attaching to a rotating tool like a drill chuck.

At 13:42 in the summit doc, there’s a rotating tool with a post big enough for the side effect hole, but they didn’t mask the prototype summit, probably just to get it up and running so they could get more prototypes in the hands of the players.

I’m trying to catalogue One Drop’s history. To that end, I have discovered this conundrum:

Imgur

If you click on this photo, you will see that the caption is ‘Throw Yo’. This is usually how One Drop would (at this point in time) indicate which retailer that colour is being sent to. Confusingly, they also used the caption to name the colours. To me, this sounds like the name of a (defunct) retailer, but I’ve been unable to find any information about a ‘Throw Yo’.

Does anyone else know about a retailer who was around back in 2012 called ‘Throw Yo’? Or do you have any evidence that this was actually a colour name
