The last couple of times I needed (or just randomly wanted) to buy something small I figured I’d make it worth the shipping and pick up a few extra small things like a 10-pack of different strings to try, an extra bearing, or response pad, or a even a t-shirt to advertise my hobby… But more often than not I am confronted with “sold out” on this site. It’s frustrating because there are so many times when I would have bought something but didn’t/couldn’t.
I wish the site would at least show in-stock items first with an option to also list out-of-stock items. I understand that yoyo is a comparatively niche product field and it’s not possible/economical to keep everything in stock all of the time. I get that. But that does create a frustrating shopping experience which I think there is room to improve.
I’m not trying to be ungrateful, I really appreciate what YoYoExpoert and Andre do for the community. This post is more an honest expression of my shopping experience that I think can be improved with options like I suggested above.
Sometimes I think this is caused because our hobby is more or less “small” and companies do not produce big numbers of the same item and also it takes them a bit to be ready with a new batch, every shop around is more or less the same situation.
Personally it doesn’t bother me but I understand that maybe you looking for a pack of a specific string and is gone or maybe another yoyo, if I buy I have to make worth my shipping cost as well and couple times I have been in your same situation
If the out of stock stuff is removed then there’s often no other record of those YoYo’s , specs, brands, designs , etc and they disappear into obscurity when removed. An archive would be nice and some folks have taken on such efforts but it’s a bit disjointed, thankless and a massive task.
I personally think sold out items being listed is fine, but I want a clear filter option in the searches or when scrolling to filter them out, rather than removing or archiving them entirely. I think that’s the ideal option and has been the way other hobby related shops have done things, so it fits well here too.
Yeah, I’ve always wished YYE had an archive or museum for sold out/discontinued yoyos. It makes looking up info on old throws so much easier when stores do this.
What I’m getting at is more about the site having an option to show or hide out-of-stock products when shopping rather than the way it is now with having to mouse-over items to see “unavailable” appear or going to add to cart just to realize the button is grayed out and says unavailable or out-of-stock.
