Fixed/Trans-axle Yoyo Contest Idea?

Maybe a string tension issue?

Even with pretty tight tension it’s unresponsive, If I throw this thin cheap bulk string on it like the one pictured above it’s responsive. It’s absolutely wild haha. I’m not good at being able to tell what blend it is and I got that bulk string years and years ago so I’m not sure, but could it be a half poly half cotton? Would that even make a difference?

I thought so too but even with tight tension nothing lol I think it’s coming loose and the gap widened…

I present to you guys my new signature Duncan model, the Butterfly Wide Gap!

yeah dude your gap is crazy wide, just pop that thing back together.

I thought so lol I’m like looking at pictures online and comparing gaps to other butterflies. Might have to superglue it cuz it just slides around on the axle. I think I got a dud here because I don’t remember them being like that I remember you’d have to really try and pry the caps off because they’re not supposed to

I’m totally making a video tomorrow throwing this thing unresponsive. Too fun

i have one from the 80’s (i think, its the lacewing butterfly) that does that as well. super crazy fun yoyo though

This is about how wide the gap should be

But what’s weird is that the other cheap bulk I have that’s much thinner makes it responsive even with this gap width

it might be tighter on the axle? thicker? at least you’re not hating the thickerfly lol

You can either just push the halves back together if there’s enough tension or you can pull it apart and use a little school glue to reset the gap. I use two pennies taped together to set the gap width, or if you want less responsive you can use a penny and a nickel.

I got the super glue to where I can adjust the gap to my liking without it coming loose or widening/tightening during play. I’d have to claim this my first unintentional yet successful mod lol

Okay noob question, how do I post vids from my iPhone on here? Says it has to be a .jpeg or one of those

You have to put them on another service and then add the link on a line by itself. Discourse will attempt to in-line it. You can use Imgur, YouTube, or insta to actually host the video.

Edit: you can probably host elsewhere as well, those are just the ones that I personally know work.

Most of us use imgur

I did not forget about this guys! Just been a little busy the last couple weeks or so. Does anyone have a date in mind? Are we doing the tricks that Mike posted? And are we just going vid for vid or live feeds or?

It’s your show (but live feed :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

I think that’s the best option too, vid for vid would probably start to get annoying for anyone not participating lol
