Perhaps we could create a button to ‘favorite’ a thread like youtube. This way you don’t need to post in the thread to get updates or spending a half hour looking for it. Basically adopt the favorite system youtube has.
You can enable notifications to be emailed to you. It’s not a “passive” or maybe as fast as what you’re suggesting but it does allow you to follow threads.
