The response pads in my Wizard seemed to be shrinking up and getting very slippy. I popped them out to replace them and thats when I realized they weren’t a standard 19mm slim pad the correct pads aren’t available anywhere I can find right now. So this is where the experiment starts. I’ve seen the flowable silicone/gasket maker technique here, but I do auto glass for a living and have access to windshield urethane. I decided im going to try it out. Maybe it’ll be a little tougher then silicone and last a little longer.
Did I fix my Wizard, did I ruin my Wizard? Time will tell!
Yo let us know how it goes for sure. I am a silicone fan for my response, shoutout permatex gear oil, and I am always interested in new response materials. I do think it is worth experimenting with so yeah I support the mission. I can’t tell exactly but did you put a pretty deep recess in there? Also finding a more durable response material would be great so I am curious. Usually tougher means more slippy so that would be my hesitation but yeah def worth trying.
I’ll update for sure. I’m going to give it a couple days to be really sure it’s cured before I string it up. I recessed it under the edges just a bit, not a ton. It is hard to tell in that picture lol
When I’ve siliconed a yoyo, I realized too late that if the silicone isn’t level, it can make bumps that translates to vibe that is felt on the string, but not the rims of the yoyo. Something to be aware of if you run into it.
This goes away pretty quick usually like once the sili breaks in
Is clear permatex harder that most other flowable silicones? Thats what I used, and after 1-2 hours on it I dug it out and used some OT pads. Should I have given it more time?
No clear is pretty soft but yeah you should have given it more time and it would have smoothed itself out on its own. You can also like just bind a lot and that will make the process go quicker.
Well the verdict is this aint the answer it worked really good for about 20 minutes until the string polished the surface of the urethane. Now it just slips. This should be fun to dig back out of here lol
Well I got lucky and they actually peeled out in 1 piece! Shame it didn’t work because they were definitely adhered in there.
Maybe hit up OD’s email? They said they were out of stock a couple days ago, but I doubt they are out out. There are also other pages on here that have lots of options.
@SlowThrow is hooking me up with a pair of the correct pads!
They are currently sweating— I mean sitting in the mailbox, awaiting the mailman tomorrow
Thank you my friend I really appreciate you!
No worries man, happy to help!
