In the end the part that bums me out the most is that I really wanted a Higby kid’s book.
I don’t want to discount the experiences you’ve had in any way. It’s entirely possible for two different people to have two entirely different experiences in the same hobby, or even the same place. At the end of the day, I appreciate you sharing your perspective and being willing to engage in open discourse.
You are right that I’m rather new to the forums/collecting. I also have no doubt that there is a higher number of men who play with or collect yo-yos, but in my experience, throwers are super welcoming to anyone interested in joining the hobby. I will certainly keep my eye out for any nefarious segment of the community that seeks to demean or disregard women, and if I see it, I will make sure to call it out. Because everyone deserves an opportunity to love this hobby without fear of discrimination.
I have updated the original thread:
Also - for what it is worth I did text John Higby last week and he did confirm to me that he fully plans on it going to print this November (2022) - so next month. I realize I am not Higby communicating this so it may not satisfy anyone. I am not defending his lack of communication - but I do want people to know he hasn’t just disappeared and I believe he will make the situation right.
Thank you for reaching out to Mr. Higby directly for clarification. I hope he is doing much better now, and feeling good about the state of the book.
If you communicate with him further, could you ask for him to post a small update to either the Kickstarter or his website with the new date? I think this would go a long way to alleviate some of the concern people have had over the lack of communication. Plus, with November right around the corner, it gives backers a chance to get excited all over again!
Thank you again for your help in getting updates.
Thanks for addressing the situation. You can delete thread and update other thread if you want
That’s a fair observation. Also keep in mind that it may be easier to not notice a discrepancy if you are part of said demographic. I appreciate your input.
