Hello All. I’m posting this to clarify chat rules on Ebay. I’ve listed about 30 items this week. I’ve received eBay messages from over 20 people, requesting other items from the collection. Wanting to discuss everything except what is in that listing. “Do you have such and such item? I have money to buy it. Will you sell it? How many do you have? Do you have display items?, etc.”
I’m asking that you please contact me directly, whistler42@swcp.com to discuss those things. Ebay has strict rules. You can’t discuss other items that you might sell or discuss other deals for things not posted. eBay has sent messages multiple times this week threatening to suspend or terminate my eBay account. They want EVERYTHING be sold ON EBAY. No exceptions. They also do not allow sending contact info. Any link or email is blocked immediately, and a warning is sent. That’s why I’ve been asking people to contact me through the museum.
So please contact me off of eBay. Last night, a guy went off on me and said I was crazy, for asking him to move the discussion OFF of EBAY, just because he was ignorant of eBay’s chat rules.
Well, it IS generally a red flag when in a transaction one party suggests or demands the discussion be taken off-site. I’ve had a couple of those interactions on this forum even. I report them and move on.
eBay is super greedy like that, so it definitely makes sense the way you laid it out, however (and knowing who you are… lol). I don’t think everyone who is interested knows that they can trust you, because the internet and fleabay are overrun with scammers and the like.
You misunderstand. I will talk about the eBay item posted on the messenger. That is what their messenger is for.
People will recognize my account and start talking about other items that they want. Last night on the posting for an X-Ray Bee, the guy wanted to talk about posters and original wall art from Duncan, and Duncan Protos. I have some of that stuff, but could not discuss it on eBay. He got angry, insulted me, and left.
And yes, eBay is terrible. They pulled three of my auctions yesterdays (which I had to re-enter) because the package said “www.proyo.com” on it. They said no postings with domain names to businesses. They have been out of business since 2001. How stupid.
I mean one of the big scam methods on any platform is taking the conversation off platform it’s literally one if the biggest red flags and a reason to not continue a transaction. At the same time if folks are asking to buy stuff not listed then just tell them they are not for sale on this platform at this time. You will list them when they are or they can contact you on a different platform. Done and conversation ends there
Honestly if I didn’t partly recognize the name I would have flagged this post for putting an off platform contact to reach out to…
