Duncan freehand mods

so i recently got myself a duncan freehand.
One of the old school style responsive ones that came in the NKF loud pack.
its okay but the response is trash. its the star burst grooves.
Are there response stickers i can buy for this yoyo?
also, i have the AL modern version im wondering if i could just put the plastic caps on the AL fh one?
I know that you have to use a pump to get the caps off the AL FH1 but has anyone but plastic caps on theirs?

Calling the response trash is a bit harsh, I think they play great. Starbursts aren’t inherently bad. I really like the Butterfly XT, it’s just a responsive yoyo. Try playing 0A with it or throw in a concave bearing for a great responsive 1A yoyo.

You could pad recess a Butterfly XT if you wanted to, but you’d still need to add shims if you want it fully unresponsive. XT caps will fit in the Freehand One AL if you just want to swap caps.

Just for clarification what you have is a Butterfly XT, not a plastic Freehand One.

Starbursts are also essential for 2A. Imagine how often you’ll have to change the pads on your loopers if they didn’t have starbursts. The cost of the pads will probably be more than the yoyo itself.

That would either be a FH proto type or a Trans-Axtion which was the basis for the FH. Production versions of the FH came with friction stickers.

They mentioned specifically where they got it from, and it was a special edition Butterfly XT that released last month.

That wasn’t stated in the original post.
That’s clearly not a Freehand so he should have been more explicit.

I think the original poster doesn’t even know what yoyo he got hahaha. That’s why @mable figured it must have been a Butterfly XT from his description instead of a freehand.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that makes sense

i didnt know what yoyo it was bc it came in a mystery box with no duncan packaging or labeling it was a special edition NFK. thanks to mable i now know its not a og duncan freehand its a butterfly xt. … still though… its look exactly a free hand to me and when you hold it next to a AL FH1 they’re quite similar. so sorry my mistake and thanks for pointing it out in polite and non passive aggressive way.

i saw this on instagram and i messaged you about it a while ago lol. this is what gave me the idea to do it!
did you use the bike pump to get the caps off the FH1

Bike pump is the only way to go.

so would the AL FH1 caps fit the butterfly?

Yeah they do, you have to screw it together first as the AL caps don’t keep the nut in place, a simple hack is to put some tape over the nuts.
