Back in March of 2022, following the success of the Emotion, @MaximShoots (Maxim) from EditionYoyo and @KirbyRobot (Gingie) requested a bimetal version. Dressel Designs got to work, but creating a bimetal CAD proved challenging without compromising the design’s aesthetics or ending up with an overly heavy yo-yo. Maintaining the stepped lower rim in the cup, a key part of the Emotion’s look, was critical.
After a break, Dressel Designs had a breakthrough: using a different material to create the stepped rim aesthetic. Thus, Connection prototype 1 was born, featuring a sandwich of aluminum, steel, and plastic to simulate the stepped rim while adding weight to the SS rim. This design kept the original specs of the Emotion but was about 1 gram lighter. However, the playfeel and performance issues, mainly sluggishness, required a redesign.
Dressel Designs tackled these issues by rebalancing the weight with a lighter overall weight and increased diameter. The overhaul of the rim design, replacing the outer ring with a midship stainless steel ring, evenly spread the weight across the rim, eliminating sluggishness while retaining power.
A special shoutout to Patreon member Bryan for naming it and Appen for the airdrop engraving design.
I haven’t had any problems with vibe that are worse than a normal bi/monometal. It is better resistant to dings and scratches though since there isn’t really any aluminum showing on the rim of the yoyo.
