DMV Throwers YoYo Club (DC, Virginia, Maryland)

July meet up (3rd Sunday) is coming quick and I want to add some activities this summer. I’m thinking yoyo horse and want to do a picnic / cookout but anyone have any other fun ideas for yoyo and skill toy activities?

record a trick circle video.

Due to some health issues I’ll not be at club and neither will our other coordinators who have prior commitments. Folks are welcome to still meet up in Quincy park though

I’ll try and get down there to you at some point. Arlington is still quite a hike from Baltimore county, but I might be able to make it some point.

I’ve been meaning to make it up to Abby’s club up in Baltimore at some point as well as the Va beach club in the spring.

Okay lots of good stuff!

First off regular yoyo club on third Sunday as usual that would be the 18th from 1-4 like usual. Bluemont room in the good old Arlington central library.

I have a yoyo workshop im doing for a cub scouts group for an intro to yoyo in Centreville on the 15th at 6:30 if anyone wants to help send me a message for more details on where and what.

Also unfortunately timed so everything is on the same week/weekend but ohh well

A workshop to test interest/space in ashburn va cascades library Jan 17th 2-4pm

Open to anyone and I’ll be happy to have OGs or more experienced folks show up just to hang or demo some cool tricks or even help teach otherwise event will focus on new players learning to yoyo for the first time.

For the workshops I’ll have some slides, and handouts and a bunch of beginner throws and string for newcomers.

Also not my events but Jan 17th is PA states

and

ECM just announced march 14th!!!

I’ll miss PA states but I plan to make time to be at ECM again.

Had a good turn out for the scout troop workshop today. Really fun and some of the kids got really into it some of the adults too.

Showed the kids beginner yoyo tricks and such then showed them some unresponsive 2a and offspring and even 5a . Had a kendama with me and let the kids kind of mess with all of the stuff I brought. Each kid went home with a fixed axle butterfly @TryCatchThrow designed that I printed and glued this week.

I did try to do something silly with a drill this week and hurt my off hand but I’m fine everything is fine. We don’t need the off hand anyway right? Right….

The loudon county cascades library workshop was a great success. We had 30 folks at the peak show up and learn with us. I have to thank Tom and Liam for stopping in and helping teach folks and Liam even did a routine for a demonstration.

I even taught a little girl how to bind on her start to learning unresponsive. Overall fantastic event and space and the staff were lovely. Karen the library coordinator really welcomed us fully and was as excited as we were for YoYo’s.

If anyone took pictures I would love to see them as well.

todays meet was really fun

Glad to hear it.

Yoyo club today went well. Over 30 people mostly kids stopped by. I’ll have to reinforce with a few parents to stay with their kids but everyone did great. Lots of learning and fun.

I am going to look at splitting club up a bit in the coming year. There’s a chance we might do the library every odd month 3rd Sunday 1-4 and an alternate location on the second Saturday of every even month to allow more folks to join and get something out of club. More details to come but if we go the route of every other month at the library It’ll open me up to more opportunities to do workshops and such.

Change is scary but I think we have some awesome stuff planned to make DMV throwers meet ups and events more meaningful and accessible to everyone.
