Second I want to save the date September 19th 2026 for VA States this year!
It’ll be held at Dulles town center mall in sterling VA this year to bring the contest s bit closer to the DC area and where the DMV throwers club can more easily help. Venue details below.
I’m currently busy with sponsor outreach and RFPs to the closest hotels for room block options but next on my plate once I get those items handled enough to move to the next is volunteer sign up and the registration page.
Exciting stuff and thank you to those that have already supported as either sponsors, volunteers or my sounding board so far.

From the very beginning, back when @Captrogers first floated the idea of hosting a contest at a @dmv_throwers meetup two years ago, you were all in. No questions, just support.
Fast forward to earlier this year: I’m still figuring things out, calling venues, gathering info, trying to shape something real. And @arthurfoley, without hesitation, jumps in with “What do you need?” and offers to sponsor, before there was even a clear concept. Just a rough idea and a lot of ambition.
That kind of belief means everything. Honestly, I’m not sure this project would’ve gotten off the ground without it.
There are more sponsors and supporters to highlight in the coming days and weeks, but it only feels right to start with the first person who said yes before the vision was even fully there.
alright so I’ve been hard at work on the funding and backend junk for the event and this coming week will be a pivot to working on registration and posting about room blocks. ill also have a bunch more sponsor shoutouts in the coming weeks and volunteer role signups coming soon.
Was hoping to post an update today with the registration page but nothing wants to work and I’m defeated. It’ll get done but first I have to fix my own tech issues because every device I touched today had a problem. So mid this coming week at the latest.
I’ll also be starting to post sponsor updates. We have had some amazing people pull through for us and I’m so excited to share who’s helping fund this event and make it happen. I have product already coming in and have been blessed with enough funds paid to cover the immediate spend without having to pull too much out of my own pocket so far. I still owe the updated spreadsheets but that’s gonna be a day I have a computer that wants to work cause updating excel on a cell phone is a form of torture. similarly the registration page dropping a pull request with only a cell phone is begging for something to break and have to fix it with only this tiny screen and the GitHub online editor which sounds genuinely awful.
Otherwise I would say at this point 60% of the tasks needed for the contest to go off are completed with the cord items being registration launch, and volunteer signups
Good news I did hear back from the Marriott and have the code for room blocks so that’s neat and I walked around the mall and talked to venue owners the other week and made several local connections that will help fund some trivial stuff and give us more buy in with the local shops and community. (I’m still holding out hope on hearing back from the Turkish coffee shop there it was so good.)
So yeah a big pile of similar status and promises to get stuff done but I don’t like leaving folks wondering what’s going on for a month either…
