I have received quite a few questions on how to distinguish the 3 different runs of the Peak. But I don’t remember seeing a specific topic explaining this, so I decided to write this thread.
Here’s how you can easily (I hope) identify the run of a particular peak from its shape.
The first distinguishing factor is the shape of the outer lips. As shown in the photo below, a 2nd run Peak has a sharper edge on the outer lip (close to 90 degrees), while the other two runs have rounded lips. This was also stated in the well known Peak History thread :
Note that a 2nd run also has a unique and feelable line under the outer lip due to the sudden angle change (edit: might be rare exceptions like the 2nd run Clown Town I, which doesn’t have this line):
Another distinctive feature is the presence of a circle inside the hub of a 2nd or 3rd run Peak, which you won’t see on a 1st run. This was also mentioned by Ben :
yeah I have seen some of the “controversial” takes, but haters gonna hate, and it is yo-yos at the end of the day and we all love them or we wouldn’t be here.
Obviously you don’t owe me or anyone anything, I get wanting privacy, you do you
Hmm, in terms of play, I might like my 3rd run better because it feels more foaty and doesn’t have that hefty feeling that is often found on 2nd runs. But 2nd runs play different from coloway to colorway, so I can’t say for sure. I remember the blue with pink mountains Peak (2nd run) played really good, too, maybe even better than the 3rd run I have, but I can’t remember how it exactly plays. I can’t say for my 1st run cuz it has vibe (which can change the feeling on string) and I haven’t tried to tune it out.
paint peak suck for all gen. too heavy. peak already 66-68g, my paint peaks weigh like 71-73g i think. look nice \
first gen good, they vibe lots and heavy feel. second gen (also heavy feel) have all best colorway, third-gen look ok
i think gen 3 play best. maple drip play much different than hulk smash. play with less weight, and smoother. feel smoother and easier to play with
1 and 2 gen feel classic and heavy
this is what i can tell you now that i identify my peak
gen 3 peak is best playing yoyo all time perhaps. when i think word yoyo i think that feeling
why do some hulk smash peak have original peak over-top chaos aesthetic splash ano as seen on 28s,
where other have faded color with limited ugly globby splash that i hate
there is 2 hulk smash, which is which
i have always wonder. i have the chaotic crazy vivid color splash one, which is 2nd gen. i used to own the ugly faded one and assume it 3rd gen because of how ugly it is, can you please tell me what gen ugly one is?
how could gruntbull make something so beautiful like this then make such ugly lazy splash after?
i totally though this one seb peak pioneer, because they have bad mask technique and splash come with unique fade as seen on all early clyw splash
I’ve actually been wondering about this too. I noticed for example the hulk smash peak Jensen used in the Blue Corner video had a more violent splash than a lot of the other ones.
Looking from the photo, they should be both 2nd runs because there is the line on the sides, though not very obvious in this picture
My guess was they did more than one batch of hulk smash peaks, not sure if the anodizer changed
you don’t believe any 2nd run have pioneer anodise? maybe just early colorways? i always think they did 1st gen and then first few model of 2nd gen until aesthetic very obviously change, but that was just how i assume. i know nothing lol
that mean gruntbull do first hulk smash and then someone else when they get ugly with frozen mammoth era?
