Cotton string with Bearing?

Asking a silly question that I couldn’t find if it has been asked before.

Are there any negative reactions that could happen if I use cotton string on a modern set up with a bearing and silicone pads.

My main concern is that I’m going to wear out the pads prematurely. Any thoughts?

Edit to add: this is for modern responsive play

Also had a good friend reach out to me and warn me that the breaks can be totally random. Was enough that I’m going to keep cotton on my fixies, but the hard to replace metals are going back to poly

Appreciate everyone advice

Really the only concern would be that cotton strings can break easier. Pads should be fine, probably have more grippy binds. A good alternative is SLICK 6 its a 50/50 Polyester/Cotton blend with a looser wind that most of todays bulk polys. Was a string of choice in the early/ mid aughts.

Awesome thank you! I’m aware of the break risk just wasn’t sure if there was others to worry about

I play mostly 0A and have come to really enjoy 100% cotton

Only issue is cotton just doesn’t last long and it’s not very good for whip tricks but otherwise it’s fun to use just have to replace it quick.

Cotton kind of sucks to play with for unresponsives dunno why you would want to

Edit
Ooop you meant for modern responsives my bad. Uhhh yeah prolly no problems w that except maybe they break and sends your yoyo across the room. Just check the string alot to make sure no threads have popped or like trouble spots

Pads will last fine, and with the right type of cotton so will the string. No worries.

Like Henry said, not good for unresponsive though.
