Yep, when doing tricks left-handed, regular string (right-handed string) loosens as you do tricks. Left-handed string is just wound the opposite direction and stays tight when doing tricks.
As a fellow south paw, I know exactly what you are referring too.
I am not aware of any left handed cotton.
However, The Nectar string by Throw-Yo is nice. Great for fixie play. All of his strings are available in left hand. I find they last a lot longer than cotton too.
There is some Ole Husband Tales still going around about this.
Back in the day, which was a Wednesday, Poly strings were hitting the market. Also during this time people were trying for the longest sleep times on their fixies. So, some would melt the poly string from Hard throws. The “Cotton is the Best” was born.
The world of yoyo has changed a lot. Most of us playing with Fixies now are not going for super long fixie sleep times. If we want a lot of spin time, we just use a Modern Responsive with a bearing. We are playing Low and Slow with stalls.
With this style of play, there is really no issue with Cotton vs. Poly vs. Nylon, vs. Blend.
Find a string that is comfortable for you and a thickness that works with your yoyo. Good to Go.
Good Luck.
Another Side Note: No matter which twist you have, a string will always need adjusted after some time of play.
Yes, even with left-handed string, you need to adjust tention, but with right-handed string, there was times my yoyo would fly off the string it would get too loose. So I still prefer left-handed when available.
Where do I find Nectar string? A google search is coming up empty.
The loosening of the string and the yoyo coming off is still an issue if you’re using left handed string on your left hand. It would happen on outside loops and inside planet hops. I hope you find some string for your no jive that your comfy with because fixed axle February is right around the corner.
