Yes, I hope you win.
Hmm, I wasn’t really aware of that
to be fair I recently watched my 2023 worlds and I noticed how short my string was then. My string length kind of fluctuates with time and the tricks I choose to do. Some tricks are optimal with different string lengths, so I try to find a sweat spot.
So it’s hard to answer your question because I didn’t make a conscious choice to lengthen my string
it just felt right for the new combos I made
I also recommend just choosing tricks that interest you, you don’t have to follow a trick list ![]()
I really appreciate you taking the time to ask a question, I recently addressed these topics with DaddyOldBeard and Sethy above ^
To add, I always get nervous and I don’t try to prevent nervousness, but I try to focus on my excitement and anticipation to present my routine
1a, usually. There have only been a couple short seasons in my life where I practiced 4a more. In 2025 it was probably 95% 1a and 5% 4a in terms of distribution of practice time
Good question but unfortunately I have no clue, I haven’t spoken with Hiro Koba in a couple years. I will ask him though ![]()
2025 Nationals ![]()
Chen Yang expressed interest to sponsor me (an open ended invitation to collaborate, not necessarily a sponsor offer) at worlds 2024. November 2024 came around and I knew I wanted a new yoyo with the features I had in mind, and I thought W1LD would be the best to help me make my best yoyo, and I love the team! I called Chen and basically pitched my 2025 plans to him and we came to an agreement ![]()
I’ve been using Kitty exclusively pretty much my whole life
I’ll consider other strings for next year though
Last year I came to love System of a Down, I frequently listened to their entire discography and I really loved their style. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like Serj Tankian’s voice. I remember the first time I had the light bulb moment for the Spiders freestyle, I listened to the song while driving (lets be real, listening to music on the car speakers is the BEST) and the emotion of the song hit me really hard and I started building the freestyle in my head and was very inspired.
I practiced anywhere between 15 minutes to 1hr a day in 2025, with an average of 30 minutes probably. This does not sound like much but I had very focused intentional practice over 6-8 months.
I like the green pads generally, but I preferred the white stock pads in the setup I was using for nats / worlds
my process of pursuing consistency is generally the same between 1a and 4a, it involves first choosing tricks that are smart and not too risky. It’s OK to have some difficult tricks but only tricks that you can handle, second you must become a master of the tricks. Being able to hit a trick consistently doesn’t make you a master, but the technique being perfect does, and that’s something I pursue (I don’t claim to have perfect technique but I strive for it, I try to do the best version of the trick I can do)
Loved that you repped SOAD with the song and shirt. Is that your favorite album of all time? If not, what is? ![]()
I like the rules at nationals (I helped make the new 2024 judging system), but I suppose would make a couple changes with worlds judging - perhaps I would remove the execution, space use and trick diversity evals.
Generally I think the judging and scoring system at nationals and worlds is pretty good. The results at a contest are made by two things, the rules and the judges’ interpretation/application of the rules. I think the latter deserves more attention, judges should have more friendly debates and discussions with one another.
My wife makes a killer salmon salad

During
Good day Connor! I am a YoYo player from Asia, so I rarely get to meet Western YoYo players so I don’t really know much about YoYo there. I am a huge fan of your freestyles and I am glad that I now have the opportunity to communicate with you. If it is alright would you mind answering some questions I have prepared?
-
First of all, what would you suggest to someone who struggles with routine construction, consistency, and flow? I see that you have such good control of the yoyo and string in your 4a and 1a, as well as your routine construction which makes your freestyles seem organized and most tricks flow well into each other.

Second, I know you don’t main 5A, but I would like to know what are ways I can improve my performances in the future? (here is my latest freestyle for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcWkac3U_FI)
Thank you for taking the time to read this! I appreciate it and look forward to your answers!
Woah sick freestyle!!! I think trick presentation will improve naturally with time, your TP is already very good to begin with. Your attention to detail with the evals was really good as well, I think any advice I give you is a matter of my personal taste, but the biggest thing that stood out to me was the climax at 0:52. (I’m referring to the beat at 0:52 that starts out of silence) It looks like you cued your throw with that beat, but I think it would be a lot more fitting to prepare a trick to the beat. So for example, throwing the yoyo half a second earlier and aiming to land the trick directly on that cue at 0:52. Something you should ask yourself is how to make your tricks and presentation match the energy of the song. Since the beat at 0:52 is very powerful and smashing, it’s probably fitting to also land a big trick directly on the cue, but to me you seemed late to the cue. Otherwise the attention to detail was great!
Favorite colorway is the black and white one, because I think it’s elegant
