how come MIggy in this case got a lower ranking than David (not that davids bad. i love his styles)
miguel seems to haev a much faster routine and input more tricks but david got 1st. is there a certain type of tricks that are scored higher?

Yes, certain tricks get more points. Innovation plays a role every year, and speed doesn’t count for everything.

each year, “innovation” has a different definition, Take JD’s '03 freestyle and Ando’s '08 freestyle, quite different, yet both considered innovative.
Although it should be mentioned that the more tricks you are able to hit, the more points you get.
Also higher risk tricks always score more points. If you do something that is likely to fail, and complete it, you get alot of points. Mistakes also kill performances. One mistake can cost a player 3 points, that’s quite a bit in terms of competing, considering some contests have been decided by les than a point.
And mr888, They don’t lean towards any certain play style, it’s what scores the most points at the time. JDs FS was hugely innovative, and if he did it today, I’d be willing to bet he’d get first at worlds again.
Of course - that’s stating the obvious. Innovation is always going to be different because then it’s not innovative. Judges don’t scope out for a specific style, they look for what’s new.
