Managed to grab a green Yeti. Couldnt help myself, people are crazy for these things.
So I imagine many of us received our Yetis in the mail, mine came in today. It’s a fun throw, has a lot of weight and momentum to it. My only wish is that spin time lasted a bit longer. Keeping in mind the bearing isn’t broken in yet and the pads are still fresh and grippy, hoping spin time will “loosen up” and last a little longer. I’m going to let the bearing break in naturally as opposed to my routine bearing cleaning I typically do as I don’t want to open the yoyo and mess anything up, be it vibe or killing a spacer.
Since I’ve never held a Yeti before, here’s my take on how it feels…It looks like it could shatter or chip and feels like clay. At the same time, it feels very solid and tough. In the sunlight, you can see tiny speckles from the glass. It plays almost like a metal.
Yup I got my Yeti today and I love it. Its dead smooth and I’ve been watching the string closely and I don’t see anywhere so I don’t think I got a string cutting Yeti Yay!
Mine has a tiny (very tiny) amount of vibe, but smoother than my Replay. After all it’s plastic so I’m not expecting it to be like my metals, pretty impressed how smooth the molded plastic is though.
I did change out the string though from the fat kitty string to normal. It was just snagging too much. I’m watching the string near the bearing seat as well and so far everything is looking good. I may try the fat string again though, I noticed brand new kitty string tends to snag until you break it in…plus the pads right now are pretty grippy.
Same! Mine is very smooth and I’ve been paying attention to the gap area to see the condition of the string. Maybe I’m exaggerating how often I check the string due to the scary comments I’ve read and heard. Honestly I don’t think a string will snap on me when I’m using a nice mid life kitty string. I didn’t notice any string damage until it was time for me to change my string which is a good hour of casual play. when I removed the dead string I put my index finger in the loop where it wraps around the bearing seat and I gave it a moderate pull and it ripped (after I noticed the breaking of the string). As long as I don’t throw really hard or do sidewinders to adjust tension I should be worry free. I still haven’t taken the yoyo apart because I don’t want to get it out of it’s sweet spot so when I get a knot or accidentally drop a triangle I use a plastic chipotle fork ;D
I have to tip my hat to Chris and Steve for answering all the questions regarding the Yeti and hand testing every one to ensure a nice tuned Yeti. Also because of how unique the design and feel is. Definitely a one of a kind and would take over 3 Draupnirs any day.
Mine came in too. I would never describe it as smooth by the standard of a good metal, but it’s smooth enough. Like Gumball said, I expected the spin time to be a little more impressive, and I’m not even a spin time guy, but I think that will improve a bit from here. I had the urge to keep picking it up and trying combos, though I wonder how much was curiosity over how much kerfuffle it’s caused and how much was because of the strength of the yoyo.
Nothing stands out to me as of yet regarding the feel in the air, I am partial to the Chief shape, and a better understanding of feel usually comes to me over time. No string-snapping or funny business like that yet and hopefully there won’t be as I rarely if ever intend to open the thing up and that’s unusual for me. It could change, but I’d still recommend the upgraded Classic due to price/performance and the freedom to tinker with it. Even so, there’s an undeniable cachet of a plastic yoyo with CLYW stamped on it that the Classic could never have. Cachet just never helped me hit tricks, so I don’t value it as much as plenty of yoyo players are perfectly all right to do.
I’m excited to see what they can do with a next generation Yeti. This will be a good project. I hope they push the boundaries (and drop the spacers).

Good to hear. Hopefully I can snag one next release. Although that will probably take quite a while, haha. Not getting down on then for that, I understand 200 yetis take a while to assemble.

Prob gonna be a good while though, they don’t just sit there assembling them. Even after that so they have to test it, smooth it out, package, sort, all that good stuff.
AND EVEN THEN, they have to send it to the retailer, who will also probably wait a while like this run to get them all out. So sit tight

IMHO it is almost annoying to see people flood the ask fm page with the same question that if they were to move their finger slightly to the right and down, they would see the exact same question AND the answer…(gambit, your post made me laugh :D)
it is also funny/confusing as to why people are going battle royale just to get one of these. dont get me wrong, i enjoy the yeti; its just…interesting to say the least 
cant imagine what Steve goes through :-X
I find it funny that they found another 200, I hope that really puts the squeeze on anyone who picked up this last batch hoping to flip it for a big profit. Scalpers get what they deserve.
