I’m still not very good with Shoot the Moon. Just something I never worked on. I can do a couple ok, but I’m definitely going to keep working on them once it gets nicer where I live and I can be outside more.

Shoot the Moon is one of those tricks (I think) you’ve just got to learn. It’s SO satisfying and has this carefree feeling to it, fits so nice into a fixed axle combo, enables the fantastic Lunar Landing trick, and it DOES get easier - though I still can’t do 2-hand Moons consistently!

I actually learned it in the stairwell of the place I used to live. I think it’s better to learn it standing, because you can correct more with your body and legs. As you get good, it’s like only your finger moves. Bill deB can do it, and I swear he’s not moving a muscle. He could probably do it with his arm resting still on a table.

Definitely a trick that separates the wheat from the chaff in terms of “classic yo-yoing”, but you know what - whether you’re one or the other, you’re still just having fun with a yo-yo!

nah. if you’re having a good time and improving in ways you find interesting, there’s actually only wheat. lots of great players couldn’t shoot the moon if it were 6 feet away. anytime i (or anyone) say that “this trick is an important standard, and you’ve got to check it off”, you instantly know that we’re full of it. but if moons are important to you, they’ll come to you.
