I see people in freestyle where they bring the string down into the yoyo, and around, but I cant seem to get it. And to clarify here is a video, he does it one the first to catches:

bring your throwhand down and toward your self look at seasick… kinda like that

Don’t make the string too tight, give it a little slack. Just move your hand around the yoyo quickly. If you are having trouble actually hitting the string, then just keep practicing and it will come.
