it’s actually really consistent performance-wise, but some strings have a super small strand sticking out. normal bulk string things, nothing to complain about on my end. also,
Mowl String || B- (82/100)
The string is real rough, didn’t expect it to be honest. It’s tightly wound enough where it feels slick and barely textured, and I found myself considering the hour a chore bc of the comfort factor (this isn’t my taste). However! The thickness is close to perfect (normal/fat i think, i don’t know the exact labeled thickness), slacks are a bit fast and more forward-shaped like with Rope and Phoenix, and whips are similarly fast. I was honestly expecting it to play like Takeshi V3, dragon foam, or other forms of trilobal because of how rough it feels, but it’s considerably slower.
Over the hour, the string sort of solidified and lost any bounce to it, the feeling of which is exaggerated by the roughness. The durability was amazing and felt like how it was new. Tension holding and consistency are so good that I barely noticed them as factors because I was too focused on my tricks, which I think is exactly what you want in string: something that blends into the background seamlessly. In my case though, this blending in only happened once I got used to the roughness. This is perfectly fine string, I see no issue with it, only preferences. Stats below.

Back to basics! The string was pretty average feeling but more soft than rough, not plush at all, while having a wind that can’t really be placed into “tight or loose”, I think it’s perfectly in the center, if not just a bit looser. Very nice binds for me, just a tad bit slippy. After getting past the “new” phase in about 15-20 minutes, slacks were solid and forward-moving, keeping shape surprisingly well while going as fast as you need it to be. Whips weren’t slow, but they also didn’t have a strong weight to them and weren’t as fast as some more recent strings are (thinking of Takeshi, Kitty Whip, OT, and even Phoenix, which is made by Sochi).
The string got pretty rough around the 30-40 minute mark, but began to soften out a bit by the time the hour was done. None of the qualities really changed as time passed, but i’m sure there’s more to explore past the hour of play. Overall, this string is actually really good, and definitely helps me see why some people prefer cheaper bulk string like Sochi. The consistency and tension holding are good enough to blend into the background, and whips and slacks don’t provide too much assistance with tricks. This is a classic good string, and not much else. i hope so, but i’d probably buy them in one big order so i don’t have to pay shipping as much. plus, im very busy with college work and ive had minimal time to yoyo in the past two weeks. i will return…
Spending a little more for bulk string from YYSL is worth it. Alphaline is good but it wears out way faster which cancels out the fact that it’s more affordable.
I’m talking about their bulk stuff. Plutonium is good but not what I’d recommend since it either works well with your setup or not, but still it lasts way longer than Alphaline.
i can’t answer this unless you define what you personally see as “the best”, since we all want different things and prioritize them differently. i’ll assume some common ones real quick.
budget-wise? OT is the best bang for your buck for Performance Per $, but I find that they don’t feel as soft and dont last as long (for my tastes obviously) as some other strings
texture-wise? alphaline and canopy rope nail it for me, along with Sochi Phoenix
performance-wise i honestly couldn’t tell you, i have a hard time measuring string performance since i refuse to think “faster whip = good”, there’s a certain resistance that string needs to have and its difficult wording it in relation to other things.
so my best bulk string combines comfort with enough performance where I don’t feel either overly assisted or overworked (as well as sliiightly slower slack movement), so I settle for Canopy Rope and Alphaline, Owen Ekblad Kitty Sig is also amazing, i think im reviewing that one next. hope this helps
