Butterfly Hype-Beasts Thread 🦋 - More colours and special editions?

I would grab a 10 pack of Normal and a 10 pack of Fat. I like both

This is what I ended up doing a long time ago

Idk if it’s still as cheap as when I bought them, but they are so good for how cheap they are and you get so much.

Personally, I don’t change my strings nearly as often as I probably should but I have so much OT that I just use it for normal, non-throw related projects as regular string (Side note now that I think about it: pound for pound, probably the most expensive set of string I’ve used to, say, hold a door open)

I’ve been having to go old school, rubbing some Chapstick or some other beeswax based product on the axle loop to get good response out of the newest butterfly and imperials

I do this with most of my wooden axle throws so maybe I’ll do this with my Butterflys too.

Here’s a curiosity that maybe someone here can shed some light on. I got another wooden butterfly in the mail today. This marks my 4th (although the axle snapped on the first one I got years ago so I really only have 3). Out of the 3 that I own, I noticed that this one has a different profile shaped than the others. The green and red ones have a more subtle curve towards the gap while the pink one is a bit more aggressive and almost identical to a new plastic butterfly. Did the shape change towards the end of the wood years? The change in shape also has a bit of a weight difference but all of my wood butterflies have a different weight, green 55g, red 53g and pink 50g. Like the other 2 that I still own I really dig this pink one, it’s just different from any other wooden butterfly I’ve owned. For reference these are all vintage 1 piece butterflies, not the newer 3 piece reissues.

I know I was thinking about them. I’ve never thrown one. It’s just like a butterfly except its got a take apart design and has a transaxle right?

I think so? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen @kretzschmar tossin one around here and there

I think there’s a general overall consensus that the new Duncan Wheels are far inferior to the fixie ones from the 80’s/90’s. (Correction, 70’s original release)
Also, wayyyyyy heavier and more solid feeling on the older ones, at like 62g vs. Butterfly 49g.

The newer Wheels like what you saw at the store are not fixed axle, I believe it’s a c size transaxle take apart.

The Wheel came out in the 1970s, fixed axle, not a take apart. In 2016 they came out with the newer ones. I highly recommend finding the old fixed axle version, it’s a performance monster for 0A. It’s also insanely good at 1A responsive, it’s the only fixed axle I have hit Spirit Bomb on.

I own a couple of the new wheels and there 100% the same as the butterfly XT’s, same body, new cap design (fits normal butterfly XT’s), instead of a large C bearing it comes with a large C transaxle. You can replace the trans axle part for a large C bearing easily. I’m a huge transaxle thrower but out of all the transaxles yoyos l’ve ever used these are definitely the worst, LM not sure if it’s because of the large transaxle piece made of nylon or if the nylon transaxle piece itself is a piece of poop :poop:

Those wheels come with this crappy transaxle. Throw that away and put a normal sized C bearing in there. It’s the same mould as the OG Butterfly XT

I’m at Target now and they have these out.

Oooh, I still have to get one of these.

Today I learned… that the generic Butterflies have both sides printed. Naturally I bought one

*just realized in this photo, either that Tesla was moving, or they parked like “one of those people” …typical Bay Area people
