Best of 2015

Here is how it goes: state the company followed by the yo-yo you think was best for 2015. Underneath you can add some comments. It goes like this.

Onedrop/Rebirth

  • awesome little throw!

You can also select a category like this:

Bimetal/Pulsefire

  • this is the only bimetal I’ve played

That’s it. Have fun.

YoyoFactory was cranking out the good stuff this year, in a fun, creative, budget friendly kind of way. Yo-Yo of the year, for me, is the Dream Titanium. It plays amazing. And, I loved the campaign, and the Dream series (Daydream, AL Dream and Nightmare) that followed it too. It really lived up to all the excitement, and was literally a Dream come true on a string. Runners up are Aviator II, Replay Pro, 2016 Superstar, and New Genesis. YYF was just on fire in 2015. It was hard for me to keep up. They killed the game. Overall, it was a great year for yo-yo.

2SickYoyos Knight and the Onedrop Citizen for me.

I’ve only tried a few new yoyos of this year and the best 2015 yoyo will be the bi metal superstar. Does this technically not count since it’s a 2016 superstar? ::slight_smile:

My favorites in each category:

Plastic: Replay Pro
Aluminum: Marvel
Bimetal: Nightmare
Titanium: Evora

I agree with total artist. Yyf was just great this year! Also, the clyw orca was amazing!

was the orca a 2015 release?

Though choices but here goes.

Bimetal: Axis Pulsefire, Superstar
Aluminum: YYF Aluminum Dream, Orca (which I think came out at the beginning of the year)
Plastic: Replay Pro
Titanium: N/A

Oh. If that’s the case. Orca is my favorite throw of this year.

The Replay Pro has become such a fixture, I can hardly believe it was released in 2015, but it had to be since I remember the release and only discovered modern yoyo in December 2014.

My best of:
New company’s yoyo: Amplified Return Top Shout
Existing company’s triumphant return: Spin Dynamics Alter Ego

This is pretty much how I feel as well, except for the aluminum category. I’d say Shout or maybe Armament.

For me the yoyo of the year has to be the Yoyofactory Replay Pro.

“But Scott, you own a Citizen?!”

Yes, I do, and it’s a masterpiece. Still, I’m giving it to the Replay just because of the impact it has on the market.

If any beginner now asks me for a recommendation for a first unresponsive throw, the Replay Pro is going to be my first recommendation. To get that kind of performance from a plastic is an impressive feat, and on top of that it’s only $16.00 and it looks great (especially the new Erik Koloski one… phwoaaaar!). The fact that Gentry is slaying contests with it is just the icing on the cake. ;D

As far as I’m concerned it has officially taken the torch from the Yoyojam Classic/YYF Onestar as THE budget plastic yoyo and the beginners unresponsive of choice.

For me, it is all summed up in one instagram post:

Can’t put a price on that. ;D

Since I only started throwing in February every yoyo I’ve ever thrown (short of an old Butterfly I had when I was 8 or 9) has been a 2015 yoyo ;D

But I do have some favorites. Not all were actually introduced in 2015, but they’re all 2015 yoyos to me:

Plastic : Replay Pro
An amazing yoyo. I can’t believe that a plastic yoyo plays as well as this one does. And at $16 each I own a couple of them. It’s the yoyo I bring when I’m camping or backpacking because it’s cheap while also being a really good throw. It’s just a fantastic yoyo which, because of the price, I’m not afraid to just stuff in a backpack or to play with it outside where it may get dinged up. It can hold it’s own against aluminum yoyos for sure.

Metal : Hmm, I’d have to do various categories

Most surprising metal : Magic Yoyo N12 Shark.
This yoyo has surprised me because it’s an under $20 yoyo and it’s just so darn good. It’s become my go to yoyo and is usually the one I will pick up first. I’m not sure when it was released though.

Most fun : Too Hot from the Mystery Box A
I wanted a Too HOT before the mystery box came out and I was really happy to see that it was one of the 2 mystery yoyos. I love the way it feels but it does show me when my throw is off and my string plane is off because it seems to want to tilt more easily. That’s a problem with my technique, not the yoyo. Controlling this yoyo is making me a better, more accurate thrower. Was it released in 2015? I’m not sure.

Most impressive metal : The Dogma from the Mystery Box A
This is the best/most expensive yoyo I own. I know that I’m not a good enough thrower to understand why this yoyo is so good and so expensive. But there’s something about it, something special. It’s in there, but I don’t know what it is. This mystery box entry is still a mystery to me.

Best looping yoyo: YYF 1080 Japan Edition
These are the only loopers I’ve thrown and I’m so bad at 2A that I probably shouldn’t even be talking about them. But I really like the ability to adjust the gap width. They’re incredibly lightweight which threw me off at first. But as I practice looping I can see how that light weight is an advantage. Every good 2A player I’ve met uses these yoyos. So it’s not the yoyo that’s keeping me from looping, it’s my skill level.

I see all those amazing throws by One Drop, Monkey Finger. 2Sick, Amplified and others and I know that at my skill level I won’t be able to appreciate how good they really are. As my collection and skill level grows I’ll be interested to see how my taste change.

Luftverk Evora
Recess Joyride
YYF Replay
SPYY TYY
and (I’m HOPING, since I should get mine today) 44RPM Rhythm!

… OH, and the SPYYxTMBRxYYE eH, which goes on sale here on FRIDAY!

I would def agree with Gambit’s assessment that is the Replay Pro. It has really been revolutionary. $16 yo-yo that can out-preform yo-yo’s seven times the price (subjectively, of course, but I’m almost certain that there are yo-yo’s that don’t play as well as the Replay Pro at $112).

Also good choices from what I’ve heard. I just picked from ones I’ve tried or bought.
