Dif-E-Yo blazed a trail in the world of high-end aluminum yo-yos, pushing the boundaries of unresponsive play with their groundbreaking KonKave bearing design.
One standout creation from their arsenal was the Dif-e-Yo Bare Bones, a true innovator in the mid-2000s yo-yo scene. While most wider yo-yos of that era lacked metal construction, the Bare Bones elevated metal yo-yos to new heights while boasting cutting-edge features.
Now, in a remarkable collaboration, Beyond YoYos has partnered with Dif-E-Yo to pay homage to the iconic Bare Bones, initially released in 2005. This tribute piece honors Frank’s invaluable contributions to the yo-yo community, recognizing his legendary status and pivotal role in shaping yo-yo history.
The introduction of the original Dif-e-Yo Cross Bones in 2007 marked a monumental milestone, surpassing the Bare Bones and infusing elements of its iconic design with the sheer power of their third release, the Tank.
Enter the Bi-metal Cross Bones, a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic Bare Bones, boasting bi-metal construction for unparalleled performance. Enhanced by a stainless steel weight ring on an aluminum body, this yo-yo elevates performance to extraordinary heights. Seamlessly blending nostalgia with cutting-edge technology, this yo-yo delivers an exceptionally smooth playing experience.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Frank and Beyond YoYos for breathing new life into this timeless masterpieces, ensuring its enduring legacy in the vibrant tapestry of yo-yo culture for generations to come.
We are also deeply honored to take this moment to pay tribute to Frank’s remarkable contributions to the yo-yo industry. While his recent passing fills us with sorrow, it also affords us the opportunity to reflect on and deeply appreciate his enduring legacy.
I am wondering what the story is behind the cross bones release? I know Frank was involved with the Bare Bones, but was the Cross Bones also in the pipeline at the same time? What’s the arrangement with beyond and Dif-E-Yo now? Like, are there going to be more releases under the Dif-E-Yo label or what’s going on with all of that? Did he sign rights over to Beyond or someone? Just curious since the whole situation with his passing is still pretty fresh. There hasn’t been any clear information about what all he was working on.
I think it’s great to honor Frank, he deserves it. I just wondered how much of a role did he have in the new cross bones? It might feel a bit weird to buy something with his company name on them that he hasn’t had a hand in doing.
I am also interested in knowing the details of Frank’s arrangement with Beyond. The use of the word tribute in the description of the Cross Bones does make me wonder. Making the Bare Bones Bi-Metal seems like a natural step, although the lack of “rings” in the cup makes it more reminiscent of the Juggernaut.
I did end up getting the Bare Bones and it’s a super fun player. Really enjoyable for an organic lover and the design was more appealing to me personally. I loved those swirls on the inner cup. The bearing was a little crunchy on mine but a drop of lube turned it around entirely. One I keep reaching for certainly.
