AFKYoyos First Yoyo and Kickstarter Project

Hello, we are AFKYoyos. A team of 5 people who thought it would be cool to design a yoyo and try to make it become a reality. There’s just one problem, we need funds to make it a reality and we can’t do it on our own.

Info of our team and our yoyo is also in the description of the Kickstarter but we’ll summarize it in this post for you.

We opened up a Kickstarter with a goal of $3000. This money will be used to machine prototypes for our team to test. The rest of the money will be used to help release our production run of the yoyo to the public.

Now you might be wondering, what is this yoyo that you speak of? And why should we support a group of random nerds? Our yoyo is called the “Headshot.” We have plans to test our prototypes in 6061 aluminum and if needed, change the alloy to 7068 aluminum if the prototype lacked rim weight or had any weird weight distributions that we didn’t foresee. Our main goal for us as a team was not only to have experience in designing a yoyo, but we also wanted to make an inexpensive mono-metal that someone could comfortably use in a competition (similar to the shutter back in 2013-2014). What makes a good competition yoyo? We thought of it having slightly thick rims for stability and being a bit wide for good horizontal play and a nice and big catch zone. All of this while keeping the yoyo around 63 to 64 grams. In short, a yoyo that has the ability to power through long combos but still be light and easily maneuverable for speed players. We plan to machine our prototypes and our production run yoyos with MyThrow, a trusted machine company recommended by other yoyo manufacturers. With MyThrow’s help, we also plan to equip our production run with YYF centertrac bearings (used with permission as claimed by MyThrow). All the colors of our yoyo will also come bead blasted so you can have easier times practicing grind tricks. (Renders of the colors can be seen in the Kickstarter description.)

We would like to give a huge thank you to people of the yoyo community. Some of which include Mark from MK1 yoyos who helped us get set up with yoyo CAD, and Matcha from Asteria yoyos who helped us figure out the goal of what we wanted our yoyo to play like. We even got a little look from YoYoFactory Ben!

Our team at AFKYoyos would love it if you made our design a reality by supporting us on Kickstarter. From there, you can view the basic overview of our project with some backstory on how the team was created and also see some renders of what we might want the yoyo to look like. We will give any major updates on our Kickstarter as well.

If you have questions or anything else to say, you can leave a reply and I will try my best to answer, or you can email us at afkyoyos@gmail.com
