Hey guys I figured I’d start a thread here to document all my ano adventures! As some of u may have seen recently, I tried anodizing one of my yo-yos for the first time! Akd it went well I’d say. If u missed that here it is. Started out as a raw blasted ti fallen angel pics incoming
I called this the bape half swap TFA (TiFallenAngel)
And I’m super proud of it.
But me being who I am, I have a problem knowing when to quit while I’m ahead. I kept it like this for two days then I decided to go higher and see what results I could get since the highest voltage I used so far was around 50-60(6 9v batteries).
Long story short, I botched it on the second attempt, I tried to do too much, I tried to see if I could mask off some swirl designs and what not but since that was my first time with zero practice it was nowhere near as good. And I went a lot higher with the voltages too, and with anodizing titanium, you can always go higher, but you can never go lower so at this point I was kind of screwed in terms of what my options were because I wanted to re-organize the yo-yo I had to get rid of the anodization now so I had a dilemma do I strip it or do I send it? I really didn’t want to do either one, but I left myself no choice so after tons of research, I decided to try stripping it first and chemical bath with some oven cleaner. I was nervous every second it was soaking in the oven cleaner, so I might’ve taken it out too soon, but it didn’t really seem like it was taken off a lot of so I got scotch brite pad and started rubbing it a little melting off combination of two pretty much got all of it off. After using a scotch right pad, I kinda got comfortable with the idea of sanding it a little but all the all I had on me was some 1500 sandpaper I’m way too nervous to use that at first seeing articles on this website and seeing some nice yo-yos, I was excited at the thought of polishing up the yo-yo and also with titanium the shiny or the more polish you can get it the more vibrant colors you can get So I said what the hell and I went to work. I wasn’t able to get a full mirror finish polish, but I did get a nice finish and here is the results for that
Not the best I know. But it was my first try and all I used was a scotch brite pad and 1500 grit and my hands. No machines.
I woke up the next day and I was like I could I could do more so I did and even though I still didn’t get a full mirror finish, I did get better than what I had so check it out. This is round two of polishing.
So…. That’s right I’m not done yet! As much as I liked the way it looked polished, and I really wanted to keep it like that for a little while. At least I just couldn’t wait to get my hands wet with and anodization again so here we go round two for I decided to stay at low voltages this time that way I can always go up later and and I could I figure I could get two or three rounds of ano, two or three different color ways before I have to polish again so I chose to go with this brown and blue swap first that I called the ywet half swap! Check it!
Needless to say I absolutely loved how this one came out. Even more than the bape half swap! Polishing it really paid off! Such a difference. This one looks so dope! I told myself not to be an idiot and keep like this for awhile. And I did. A whole day and a half! Lmao. I’m already onto round three and round three might be even better. But I don’t want to give u guys an overload here on the first entry so I’ll save that one for tomorrow. But I’d love any feedback. If u guys have any tips or advice for me I’m all ears! Also down for requests
Ps. Please forgive all the grammar mistakes and spelling I promise I’m better than this I’m using dictation while I’m driving to do this whole entry and I talk fast so Siri doesn’t catch everything. And I don’t have time to go through and correct everything right now. Thank you for your understanding.
