A-rt furn first impressions

The Garrett looks really good. It looks quite no-nonsense. It’s nice to see something different from A-RT.

Via Instagram. I don’t live in the same country as he does. We talk about yo-yos, life, family, medicine (the field), etc. he’s a very nice guy.

it feels like an earth crisis when someone has a differing opinion about anything in the yoyo community. particularly about these guys… but generally, you can’t have an opinion about anything unless you
are towing SOME mainstream line… which is kinda weak for a subculture… or, even for people in general to have any effective discourse and communication.

but, like… the question was about first impressions about the furn. in sum, i was not impressed, it’s ok… no animals were harmed. even though i like a-rt… jensen & charles seem fine and i seek no ill will on them. i’ve had, and still own, several of their yoyos. i’m not a ‘fanboi’, but they do a good job… or did, whatever.

no one was ‘hating’ on them or their contributions to the community… or their ‘cool videos’ or whatever. they do a lot… sweet, this one looked like a sammy hagar album to me in the van halen lineup, and some of us don’t want to pay for a redundant cover with it. so what :man_shrugging:t3:

as a customer, that is OK to do, and have that opinion. and, ‘vote with our wallets’ for whatever $1 to $1000 throw that, as a customer - old, current, new or upcoming - we can choose to do. there is a market… a free market, with many options. we can also provide subjective opinions on other options (or objective at times when discussing facts). i know i do that a lot… like, a LOT…

if you wanted a thread that was just all gushing a-rt fanboi furn love posts, it should have been titled appropriately.

I started this thread because I was on the fence about buying one, I knew it would probably turn into a thread where a few people complain about a $142 monometal however personally I enjoy having this conversation with people so I didn’t see a need to change the topic, I don’t mind criticism so I don’t want people just saying the furn is the best throw ever, I wanted to know cons so I could better make my decision.

Pros: it’s fun and funky. Plays well. It can fingerspin and pullstart. Tight binds.

Cons: it’s not a competition or high performance throw so it’s not going to have a super long and stable spin (if that’s what you’re looking for with that kind of price tag). Flowable silicone might initially make it come back prematurely.

If you have the cash to spare, it is quite a fun throw.

If you don’t like it, the BST is a friendly place to trade or sell.

Loved the Sammy Hagar in a line of Van Halen. Great imagery ^_^.

@Glenacius_K makes yoyos described similarly… the one i had… i can’t remember… the sponsored kid :man_shrugging:t3: (not the con part)

I’m not sure which one you are referring to, @fatguysnacks247.

This is one of the only occasions I’ve considered possibly buying another to have on hand of the same throw. I enjoyed it that much.

I’ll def be in on this one then

Thanks for not drawing too much of a conclusion from my mentioning RSO.

Interestingly, Elvin and I are good friends.

I simply mentioned the Doom Bot at $470 because Elvin is pretty new to the yoyo selling game(compared to a-rt). Elvin does not compete… he doesn’t make trick videos… and ‘most people’ know very little about him🤔.

He basically came out of the blue, selling some yo-yos to raise money for a special children’s charity close to his heart. His Spaceship costs around $300 something🤔. Slick playing yoyo with an Outstanding presentation. They sold out very fast and I heard NOBODY cry about the price or where they were made or what his cost per yo was or anything else for that matter.

He has now done several models and every one is a Weapon… nobody wants him to justify his prices.

His latest, the Doom Bot, is a Superb Titanium/brass yoyo. Presentation as usual, Impeccable. Beautiful visual impact. Smoooooth as glass. Great feel in the hand and on the catch. Spins like it’s solar powered. Hits the bottom of the string like velvet. And doesn’t feel heavy in play.
…$470? Haven’t heard anybody ask for a box a Kleenex yet?

I got a few YWETs to Elvin last year to help him along with his Remake research. He figured one good turn deserves another. So I ended up with a few yo-yos including a Proto Doom Bot. Proto is on the bottom or in the back>

Elvin and a-rt have something in common. Both Companies strive to make amazingly cool yo-yos with their respective price point ranges and styles.

RSO does the exotic stuff that plays very well indeed. And a-rt does the No Bones/no box/nothing exotic… but excellent more organic designs that play very well.

Both Companies offerings have valid places in the Yoyo Universe.

That being said, if a-rt can release such nice yo-yos for about a third the price of other Sellers. If nobody gripes about RSO, then nobody should gripe about Charles and Jensen.

If a-rt needs to subsidize their own existence, it is worth supporting them so they can continue to offer up such sweet playing throws.

PS… I am fully aware that A-rt does not have titanium yo-yos. For my explanation, I am disregarding the various materials used in both Sellers offerings. I am focusing more on the curiosity of why people feel compelled to be unsettled by a-rts’ price points.

Elvin is a very thoughtful person. I agree with you. People have a right to charge what they want for a product they own. I didn’t think you were making any digs. I was just adding, that in his particular case, he sold it for a loss as opposed to the typical price padding for profit margins. And you’re right about the nimbleness of it. That caught me off guard. It is an excellently crafted throw.

P.S. I have wanted a Spaceship for so long.

Quite frankly it’s like buying cars or any other item. There are items priced at levels people don’t bat an eye at and there are similar things at astonishing prices. In probably 99% of the cases a $25 - $40 yoyo would quite easily satisfy the needs of most players. Yet a lot of people pay considerably more. Similarly with cars, to get from point A to point B a Chev or a Honda would satisfy the requirement for most people, yet the market for BMWs, Mercedes, and Volvos thrives.

Disclaimer: I currently own a number of “higher priced” yoyos, including a titanium. (I once said I would never buy a yoyo that cost more than $30. At the time a “high priced” yoyo was $80). My wife and I both drive Volvos and I own two high priced kevlar canoes. I like nicer stuff and am willing to pay the price.

p.s. I have a number of $15 - $35 yoyos that I still play and enjoy, such as a YYJ Journey or HM as much as my HSPIN or AntiYo yoyos…
