I’ve been playing 1A for a little over a year now and feel like I’ve made some good progress. I recently wanted to try 5A. I’m finding pretty quickly that a lot of tricks, or even mostly all of them, can be done left or right side. I’m just wondering: Do serious 5A players often learn tricks and combos on both sides and switch it up, or do you generally still have a dominant side? For example, I’ve watched some competition videos and I notice that the player might only do an E-fan on one side.

I think alternating-hand bee stings are sick. Its why I practice 5a.

I think it depends on the player. Some ppl like takuma put a lot of focus into being able to mirror both sides and some players def lean into a dominant side. Not really a wrong approach when you get started like just start chucking it.
Heres a takuma vid w symmetrical technical drills
That’s kind of what I figured. I was pretty excited when I managed to flip to the trapeze brother and do a 360 that way. I’m not usually good at lefty anything. At the moment I’ll just focus on the basics, as I can barely do much more than a 360 at this point. My catching hand is also looking forward to some relief when my rubber counterweights from Yotricks get delivered tomorrow… ![]()
