So much for the notion that small market teams can’t compete for a World Series championship! I, for one, and ECSTATIC that this year’s championship dismissed the Dodgers and the Yankees completely! Personally, I believe that the opportunity to challenge plate umpiring calls of balls and strikes has eliminated the league’s ability to tilt the advantage to their favorite two teams to sell to the advertisers for the Fall Classic. This year, we actually got the best teams from each League facing each other instead of the two largest media markets in the country! I still believe that MLB is in need of some equaling rules when it comes to players salaries but not for individual players. The player deserves what the market will bear. The TEAMS need to be limited to how much they can spend in free agency and team total salary to keep the Dodgers and Yankees from just making a mockery of the whole process. Yes, put a cap on each season for trades and free agent signings for both total spending and number of players added to a team’s roster for the upcoming season. That will put a damper on the hoarding of talent and monopolizing the free agent market by the teams in the big market cities. Oh, yeah, they can scream all they want about being disadvantaged because of their success! They’ll just have to play smart instead of merely backing up a dump truck full of one thousand dollar bills. GOD BLESS YOU, TAMPA AND MILWAUKEE! I’m taking my whole family to see them play when they come to my city’s ball park in 2027! IF only someone would make a t-shirt with “SMALL MARKET, BEST BALLERS!” with some catchy themed art work, I’d buy the whole family one! YES, I KNOW those big market teams have to pay their competition when they spend the Gross National Product of some continents on our planet on player salaries. It is time to put a cap on THAT!
If you aren’t sure of the veracity of my statement, look at what happened to every top performing pitcher who went to free agency in the past five years. The best of the best show up in Los Angeles driving Lamborghini’s and wearing Rolexes! KEEP THE CAR AND THE BLING, BOYS, JUST DO IT IN ANOTHER CITY! BESIDES, THE AIR ISN’T GOOD FOR YOU OR YOUR FAMILY!
Excellent take on the entire Major Sports Teams and how they ignore the rules over & over again! And complain the entire time they are being treated unfairly!?! Thank you Jim for pointing this out so well brother!!
Thank you so much! Now, if only I could go back and correct my grammatical and spelling mistakes and clean it up a little more, THAT WOULD BE VERY SATISFYING. I am THRILLED that my message got through!
Jim
