Is it a solid or a base for something?

As an orange string adherent, brown works for me.

Also interested to see another color outside of the common rotation.

Upon closer inspection I reckon it’s a gold-ish colour. Also I’m pretty sure you can’t do a ‘base colour’—it’s not paint, it’s dye that goes into the pores of the anodisation. Also that photo would appear to be at One Drop’s store so that’d be the final colour.

I assumed that splashes etc. required applying a base and then masking (and stripping?) the areas where additional colors will be added. Could be 100% wrong, or just not applicable to yo-yos, etc.

I think it’s done by masking the raw yoyo and then removing masking after each step.

I’m sure that there are multiple approaches, depending on who is doing the work and the desired effect.

What's this CLYW colorway?

Over the past year or so I’ve been collecting CLYW in the “Wolverine” colorway (yellow/gold base with blue splash). I was lucky enough to snag a Gnarwhal, BvM and Puffin off the BST through some luck and patience. The Marmot has been difficult to find, but recently I acquired what you see below (furthest right): [image] What colorway would you call that? It’s not a traditional Wolverine–at first I thought it might be a FG, but there are no FG markings. It looks like a Wolverine acid wash gon…

I’m just saying if you’re doing a splash, I don’t understand why you would ever strip. Let’s say you’re doing a red and blue splash on black. You could start by doing a mask, then do the black, remove some mask, then do the red, and finally remove the rest of the mask and do the blue.

That sequence makes sense. I don’t know that there is a place for removing color during typical yo-yo anodization.

The difficulty was in lining up the stencils perfectly straight and then for a few of the invaders, having to lay down individual pixels very precisely, all without touching the yoyo.
