The One Drop product page also calls it “a Side Effect Chief/Leaf”. Which at a glance seems a bit reductive. But retrofitting any yo-yo with SEs is non-trivial, especially a high profile release based on either of those two (especially the Chief). The similarities in the profile are certainly visible.

True. The mid rim ring on a lot of OD yoyos (like the cascade and many others I found in here) and the double rim of the chief is functionally similar though.

Yeah this isnt a classic sequel. Its more like the knives out movies where this is what the collab is called and these are the results of the collab.

That’s where the design process really started. Shawn said that he had always wanted to add side effects to a chief, so he and Steve brought up the cad and started tweaking things to make it work. The rest of the team sort of rotated through and gave their thoughts here and there, which changed the end design slightly but I think it retains that distinctly chiefy feel. Ayumu and Hesh were locked in the whole time, Alann was obviously filming everything, Steve was sort of running around wrangling everyone when it was time to give their opinions on things and me and Matt Poon spent most of the time yoyoing our way through OD’s insane collection and joking about how we were the two guys who were REALLY in charge.
