new full poly blend!!!
Doing good here. Had crawfish for the first time this year. That’s always a great thing. It seems that all the strings are on their way. This means that I’d better get to spinning some strings! Meanwhile, I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Wash your hands, you filthy animals!
Didn’t realize folks eat crawfish used to catch them and feed them hotdogs
They all look nice. I’m a sucker for different shades of thread in one string so I like blue and green best. Cool artwork!
you totally should!
Why not?
do it, its been a long process for me (because I have not had the money to get thread) but its totally worth it in the end
One of my favorite dishes to make/eat.
Crawfish Etouffee
Ingredients:
1 stick butter
½ cup all purpose flour
2 large onions, diced
2 stalk(s) celery, diced
3 Tbsp garlic, minced or zested
½ cup green onion whites, sliced (save some green for garnish)
½ bell pepper, diced
2 cups chicken or seafood stock (or shrimp stock)
½ tsp cayenne pepper
½ tsp paprika
1 bay leaf
3-4 shakes of Lea and Perrins worcestershire
1 lb Louisiana crawfish tails, thawed (I have to use frozen from LA.)
½ cup parsley, chopped
½ tsp Creole seasoning or Slap Yo Mamma cajun
Salt and pepper to taste
Tabasco with the seasonings or after plating if desired (or both)
Optional:
1 ½ cups approximate tomatoes, diced (1 can or fresh)
1 tbs tomato paste
Directions:
-
Melt the butter in dutch oven (or other heavy pot) with flour. Brown to make a rue over medium heat until it is a brown caramel color (the color of peanut butter).
-
Add vegetables minus the garlic, green onion whites, and tomatoes if using. Cook in rue for 5-10 minutes until soft. Now add garlic, green onion whites, and tomatoes. Cook for another 5 minutes to incorporate all together.
-
Add stock, and seasonings minus the parsley.
-
Simmer while covered for 45 minutes. Season to taste. Add a little more stock if it gets too thick.
-
Add crawfish tails and parsley. Heat back to a low simmer and cook 5-10 minutes. Do not overcook the crawfish tails, just heat through.
-
Season to taste and serve with rice.
Yes! Fitting name.
Edit: FYI, I already told Avvatar, but I couldn’t figure out a way to reliably wrap my strings in the rolling papers individually without the gum/sealant getting on the strings so I abandoned the idea.
Yeah for no sticky strings though!
crawfish is my favourite food. my grandad is cajun and is from New Orleans
I was in Nawlins for vacation when Paul Prudhomme had just invented Blackened Redfish at his restaurant. Waited 2+ hrs in line when some fancy or famous people got to cut line when we were at the door. My mom’s friend started raising cain and cussing until we got kicked out before eating. Worst day of my life.
Copeland’s ‘Shrimp Ducky’ was another favorite of mine there. Long long ago.
But Crawfish Etouffee still tops even my alaskan king crab alfredo to my taste buds. But a boil pinching tails and sucking heads is worth a trip no matter where you’re from!
lol my mom side of the family kinda gags at the thought of eating crawfish
Today is another day with no real news. Nothing exciting is happening with the string fling. I expect to ship in about a week. I have yet to make my strings. I slack, therefore I am. I hope everyone is staying sane and healthy out there. Don’t get the Covids and Caronas. Be thankful for all the free time and try to learn something new. Look forward to amazing string package.
Stay up, playaz…
What are some uncommon string materials y’all have used ?
Upholstery thread. Suuuuuper strong.
Poly embroidery thread. Very slippery and. Made a “thud” at the end of the string.
I made some string out of silk for fixed axle. Other than that the only other (maybe) uncommon thing I’ve used is Rayon. It comes in super bright colors, but I found it to be a bit rough on the fingers and zero stretch.
I’ve used yarns ,twines , dental floss , slik I currently using an artificial sinew mix that’s what y’all will get in your packs i want to try rayon anything thread like I’ll give a try lol
Wow! That’s quite the variety of stuff. Did the waxy coating on the sinew and dental floss leave any residue on the yoyo? Affect response?
So the full dental floss I tryd was way too stiff so didn’t try it too long but the sinew blend i haven’t noticed anything but maybe different stuff different outcomes I was thinking there would be some when i frist twisted them
what you used dental floss? props for being creative
