So in the end the contents of the box aren’t worth $100, not even the $50…

I was under the impression that the 50 box would have 100 dollars in yyf stuff (ie yyf mystery box).
The catchy kendama is not yyf right?

That said, I’m new and this mystery box thing was still fun and now I have more stuff to play with than I have time haha.
Catchy and YYF have the same parent company (Rapid Plastics Inc), same owners.
I’m not gonna say I’m not happy with the box, I am. But the thing I am unhappy with is the mods were on the forums saying that this was going to be the best box yet, and that is simply not true. I don’t think you will find a single person who wouldn’t swap this year box for last years box.

Anyway,
The thing I will say about this box is: It’s good. For the money it was a good deal! I REALLY wanted THAT kamada so that was awesome, the toll was good and i’m a sticker head. The only thing I will say is yes, I expected a metal and I’m not a HUGE fan with the shaqler. Its has it’s up and downs (yoyo pun) But I like protostar more and I wish I would have gotten that instead. The new throw is…ok. It fits nice in the hand, looks good with any type of string as it’s a really nice flat black color. It preforms nice (Mine had a messed up bearing so I just swapped it with one of my spare bearings) well, nice doesn’t do it justice. It’s plays Awesome for a plastic! especially with no metal rims. It’s a treat.
in the end, I only feel a little bummed cause I missed last years and I guess I was hoping for one new metal throw. I’m not raciest against plastics, I LOVE them. But theres something about waiting like, a week in half for a mystery yoyo, and you open it up and it’s plastic. Nothing to the awesome playability of the yoyo, as it is awesome with a working bearing, but something just lacked.
I guess for me, since I wouldn’t have bought the new throw or shaqler myself, it doesn’t feel like ‘a deal’ like if I got the cypher like last year.
Again, to sum it up: awesome deal for the price and quality. Great little throws. Me, personally, do not feel like that because the throws are not something I would be pumped for. (Like, instead of the shaqler, I would have preferred the protostar, or a yyf hubstack or speed dial.)
But I would like to thank yoyo expert for the mystery box! They did not need to do this, and they did this for us and that does not go unnoticed so I thank them!!!

As for the $50 box it is not just you, as for the premium and collector boxes, they’re amazing.

I guess the kendama thing is kinda like an advertising thing? If some of us enjoy it and start playing it, then more money for the Rapid Plastics Company? I do think that even some bearings or string would have been more welcome than the Catchy. It just seems like a very tone-deaf sort of stunt to pull. I’m happy enough with the spread, Mine should be arriving tomorrow, but it just seems like a very unintelligent move to say that this would be the “best yet” and then drop a kendama in there. They could have included 15 dollars worth of pens and it would have been just as relevant to our interests.
Well I’m out of pens…so that would have been nice.

My gel pens do that REALLY well. XD unless you mean the c clamp on the shielding, then I just yell at it with a safty pin until it comes off
I’m fairly new to yoyo and new to this community as well, so take this with a grain of salt. I was also disappointed with my $50 box initially. I currently have one plastic yoyo from a different, unnamed site and was really hoping for a metal. I also felt this year’s box was not on par with last year’s, but in hindsight it wasn’t the same deal. Last year promised more bang for the buck. That being said, both plastics in the $50 box play better than the one I currently own. The Kendama wound up being an unexpected surprise. I never would’ve bought one for myself, but I’m really enjoying it. Wish I would’ve bought a $100 box, but I probably would’ve just dinged the crap out of those throws anyway.
sometimes im shocked about the whining on this forum but then i remember the average age here is probably 13 years old. i would have loved to get two dope plastic yoyos and a kendama for $50… when you kids grow up and actually earn money maybe youll change your tune.
The adults complain more than the kids do. It’s been that way for the last 20 years, I don’t assume it’ll change any time soon.
I bought MikeEff’s extra box. Looking forward to it.
