10 ball eats string?

I put an OD 10 ball bearing in my yoyo, and the string looks like its about to break where it is next to the response pads… Is it safe or should I change the string?

When in doubt ALWAYS change the string. It not only protects the yo, but people, animals, and objects in your vicinity. String is cheap compared to the possible consequences, should it break.

It’s not the 10 ball breaking the string. Most likely the type of finish on the yoyo or just from use. What yoyo are you using and how long has the string been on it?

Di Base and the string was on for like 20 minutes of play. It started when I put the 10 ball in. Before I had a Konkave.

A bearing won’t cause string wear.

Ya, that is not even possible for it to be the culprit, unless there are spikes on it.

Wait what kind of finish does the Di Base have? Maybe it’s due to the fact that the 10-ball is flat and let’s the string touch the edge of the yoyo and it wasn’t as evident with a concave style bearing because it center the string

Just a simple anodize. I’m guessing he scratched the finish removing the bearing and created sharp spots.

Where could one find a 10 ball konkave thats good?

Here’s what happned: The dibase has a rough finish so it eats string, but the kk was stoping the string from touching the walls, so it had no effect. Now, however, you have a ten-ball which doesn’t center the string so it rubs against the yoyo fraying the string.

Doesn’t the DiBase ship with a flat bearing?

I’m guessing all that really needs to be done is do the Denim rub-down on the bearing seat area to take any roughness off of the area.

This does have me a bit concerned as I’m planning a DiBase for purchase very soon. However, if that’s the worst I need to deal with, that’s not so bad. I had the same issue with an Agape recently and I was advised what I should to do resolve the problem. I wrapped some denim around a 9/16 socket(I think that was the size) and put it on my drill and ran it for a few minutes in short pulses and the problem was resolved.

I just fail to see how the bearing itself would cause strings to get eaten.

I’m pretty sure the Di base doesn’t even have a bead blasted finish.

Your yoyo is fine. Your bearing is fine. Practice.

I don’t think practicing has anything to do with the question…

Is it possible that the bearing is the wrong size, with the string sliding between the bearing and the bearing seat, thus creating premature string wear?

Is this one string, or every string you put on it?

Your question only mentions one… in which case, it’s simply worn out… replace it.

This is what I’m thinking as well. Doesn’t this yoyo come with a bearing that has no chamfer on the edge of the bearing? The 10ball does have a chafer and if that is the case the string could ride in that area till it snaps. Although with the string wear by the response I’d say it just needs some tlc in that area. Just give it the denim rub and be done with it. If that doesn’t work I’ll trade you for it and I’ll throw it on my lathe and fix it.

On wide gap yoyos, I find that bearings like 10 balls with the smooth corner show the corner a bit, and the string often gets attracted to that spot, so that might actually be the problem.
