DV888 Review

If you told me a couple of months ago that I could buy a brand new YoYoFactory metal for $70, I would’ve thought that you were crazy. Thanks to YYF’s new “Fundamentals” line, I did.

I tried out a prototype for the DV888 a couple of weeks ago, and I was disappointed. the ano was nice and all, but it turned a lot too much for a $120 dollar yoyo.

When I saw that YYN was offering Pre-Release DVs for $50 after the purchase of any other YYF metal, I was excited and disappointed at the same time. I knew that I couldn’t afford two yoyos, buy I also knew that this meant the DV888 was going to be a cheaper YYF.

A few days later, I saw the offer YYE was about to start. I was flabbergasted :o ! Only $70 for a YYF Metal? No Way!!! Plus a free DVD??? Yes!!!

I got my package in the mail and opened it up to find my DV888 in the traditional YYF box with red, black, and white graphics. Along with this there was a black tab with the DV888 logo, and a string inside. I carefully got my yoyo out and reassembled the box. After further inspection, i sighted my DVD, shipping info, YYE trick list, and two YYE stickers. I love extra goodies!

As far as the actual yoyo goes, its great, but don’t expect it to be worth $120 like the other YYFs. The black ano is smooth and the matte finish looks great! The white Turning Point K-Pads are nothing short of spiffy. The silver axle and SPEC bearing go well with the black and white yoyo.

There’s been a lot of talk about the DV being a “One Drop Killer”. Some people have been saying that this is completely ridiculous, but in reality, it does play a lot like a Project.

Cons:

It is smooth, but not quite as smooth as I remember my new M1 being.

The gap is large, but doesn’t seem to handle multiple strings as much as I expected.

Something about it doesn’t feel quite right in my hand.

Sleep times aren’t spectacular

Pros:

The ano is AMAZINGLY smooth and great for finger grinds! (the lack of good weight distribution makes it tough at first though)

It is PERFECT for 5A

Thumb grinds are great!

It is a suicide machine.

I got a small scuff, and since it is the right color black, I easily covered it up with some Sharpie marker

It doesn’t turn nearly as much as the proto!

Binds are tight! These pads are perfect!

Oh yeah, its also got the BIGGEST YYF LOGO EVER!!!

BOTTOM LINE: NATURALLY, THIS WILL BE COMPARED TO THE 888. NATURALLY, IT WON’T MEASURE UP. BUT IT IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST VALUES EVER! GO PICK ONE UP!

What YYE offer?

Awesome review! This made me not want one, i don’t like yos that can’t hold a lot of string layers ;D

Good review!

Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t hold them terribly, it just gets a little unsteady once you triple on trapeze.
I was trying to compare it to an 888 most of the time, and that will obviously hold more.

No stacks?

No stacks.

Great Review! I really want one but I dib;t have any more cash, just got a 888!!!

Well a 07 B-grade (Mint!!) for 15 dollars but it is still and 888!!!

NICE REVIEW!

Is it stackable?

This product is not designed for hubstacks

regarding ‘multiple layers’ of string can you try it one more time
